Giuliana Santini - who uses her married name, Reitzfeld, in real life - has gone back to school! She's a junior at Brooklyn College, where she is majoing

As a teenager fresh out of high school, Giuliana Reitzfeld, now forty, "wasn't interested in doing the college thing." She went to work as
an actress instead and enjoyed twenty years of success in theatrical work and television commercials.
But after marriage and two children-now six and three-she decided to switch careers. "I wasn't really qualified to do anything besides sell
toothpaste," she says. "I wanted to work with kids, so I knew I would need a bachelor's degree. My younger child was starting day care. It just
Now a junior at Brooklyn College, Reitzfeld is majoring in English with a minor in children's studies. She plans to get a master's degree in
education and then to pursue a career in early childhood education. "I feel that's the place where I can make the most difference," she
Although she initially chose Brooklyn College for its convenience-she lives in nearby Kensington-she's been thrilled with the campus, the
professors, and the students.
"Sometimes I just sit on campus under a tree," she says. "It's one of the most beautiful campuses."
Reitzfeld is taking 17 credits this semester, and though it's a tough schedule, her professors make the classes very engaging. "I haven't
had a lame one in the bunch," she says of the Brooklyn College faculty. "When my children's lit class was cancelled, as swamped as I was with
schoolwork, I was really disappointed."
And as for her fellow students? "They've been one of the best parts," she says. "There's a great deal of diversity across the board-in
age, race, ethnicity. But looking around the classroom, I think: These people are all here for the same reason. It's a great academic community to be
