Coach Taylor and his young protege, Matt Saracen, grappled with issues of honesty in the episode "El Accidente."
Matt and his best friend were both witnesses to the incident that took place at the local hangout. Landry was furious when Bobby Reyes told the authorities, the press - everybody - that "the Castor kid" had stirred him to anger with racist remarks (remarks actually made by Voo Doo). He was angered when Matt refused to take a stand against the lies and the friends faced the first real strain on their relationship since Matt became lead QB. Eric allowed the truth to go untold when a powerful friend of Buddy Garrity's let questions re: Voo Doo's residency slide. Though he had a feeling that Bobby Reyes wasn't telling the truth, he accepted the football player's lies and welcomed him back to practice. It was Landry's anger that convinced Matt to do the right thing. His honesty convinced Coach to do the right thing --- the student did the teaching this time around. Bobby Reyes was kicked off the time in short order and the Panthers forfeited the game in which Voo Doo had been on the field. Coach Taylor took a back seat in "Homecoming." The people of Dillon were out in force to celebrate the big game and the return of alumni to the home feld. This was such an emotional episode!!! When Jason took the field, I was all choked up! Tim quit drinking in response to Lyla's disgust with him. At the game, it was Tim who wheeled Jason onto the field and later presented him with the MVP ball for being the team's . Smash had a heartbreakingly bad game just when he needed to do his best for the scout in the stands and his story took a very dark turn at the end of the episode... Will Tim be able to stay sober? Will Smash continue taking steroids? Will Julie accept Matt's oh-so-unconfident attempt to ask her on a date? Stay tuned! Here's the official spoiler for Tuesday's episode: CROSSING THE LINE 11-28-2006 8:00PM FACE ME LIKE A MAN - While Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) and the team celebrate their victory, a frustrated Brian "Smash" Williams (Gaius Charles) takes drastic measures to improve his performance on the field. Coach Taylors (Kyle Chandler) daughter Julie (Aimee Teegarden) considers going on a date with rookie quarterback Matt Saracen (Zach Gilford), meanwhile Saracen trains "Smash" at his new job at the Alamo Freeze. After dinner with Coach Taylor and his wife Tami (Connie Britton), Riggins and his brother clash in a heated fight. Riggins and Lyla (Minka Kelly) watch from the stands as Jason (Scott Porter) takes part in his first quad rugby game, one that will end with a vicious confrontation between him, the woman he loves, and his best friend in the world. And some promotional stills for "Homecoming" --- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Have you seen the interview with Kyle featured at the official FNL website? He talks about getting the part of Coach Taylor and what a great year 2006 has been! He also describes how the series is filmed. The cameras are so far away that the actors are able to have a much more personal interaction than they would be traditionally, with the cameras right there in their faces. Apparently, each scene is shot without any second takes. That's pretty impressive. No wonder FNL has a reality-show type feel to it! www.nbc.com/Friday_Night_Lights/ For the real FNL junkies, there are some great "deleted scenes" available for viewing at the same site. Some sexy Eric/Tami scenes, a frighting meeting with the PTA or some group of Dillon parents, Eric breaking up a fight between his players and their arch-rivals, a funny Julie bit. Good stuff! Last, but not least, check out these behind-the-scenes photos from NBC... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Arrrrgh!!! I knew it would happen and it finally did. I got my days screwed up, I thought TODAY was Tuesday (if you've ever worked midnights you'll understand!), and I missed taping last night's episode of FNL! I've got all the other episodes on tape in order. I can download it online but does anyone know of a way to hook my computer up to my VCR?

I just was wondering...does anyone know if they film FNL in TX? I remember reading that they shot the pilot in/around Austin...but I don't know if they film the rest of it there or in LA. I live only about 1 to 1 1/2 hrs north of Austin, and I thought about looking into to seeing if they need extras. I used to do that years ago for Dawson's Creek and had a great time. I even got to meet a few of the stars, and hang out with them after work. I just thought that it would be really cool if I got to do that for FNL and maybe get to meet Kyle...wow! Anyway, I'll stop daydreaming now...so does anyone know where they film it at?
Happy Homefronting! Sarah K. ![]() |

Sarah K., the first article I ever read about FNL said that they were shooting portions of the pilot at Perfliger, TX. I'm not sure how you'd go about finding out how to be an extra... Maybe there's something on the FNL website??? Or somebody at the town hall in Perfliger might be able to tell you! It sounds like a pretty small town. You must give us all the details if you get "cast" in the show!!!
Speaking of football towns, during my trip through east central Texas, I was amazed to find little towns just like the fictional Dillon. The very first town we drove through after entering the state had homes all over with signs on their front lawns sporting the name of the team and the number of the player living inside! There were banners everywhere supporting the team. I felt like I'd just walked onto the set of FNL! Did y'all see that the series is moving to Wednesday nights beginning 12/27? I'm super glad because I don't think the show has a chance scheduled opposite American Idol on Tuesdays. Wednesdays might be a much better fit. I wonder what else is on in that time slot... I got to catch bits and pieces of the last two episodes though there was one I missed out on entirely. Oh well, something to look forward to in reruns! Lots has happened!!! Matt and Julie are dating - or trying to, anyway - much to Eric's very sexy chagrin. Jason figured out that Tim and Lyla had been sleeping together and booted them both out of his life. The school is in a uproar over Tim's and Lyla's actions. Tim was attacked in his truck and Lyla has been treated like a pariah. I love the scenes between Lyla and her dad. Buddy's so sweet as a daddy! In the midst of it all, Jason's come home from rehab and is facing "the rest of his life" now. Brian continues to use steroids. His sister knows part of what's going on and Coach had a hint last week. Will Brian be in real danger before anyone realizes what he's up to? Is FNL going to be on this week? I don't see any promotion for a new episode over at NBC. |

Re: Friday Night Lights

FNL made its Wednesday night debut last week with a three-episode marathon. I had missed most of these the first time around because I was in the process of moving... so it was great to have a chance to catch up!
Something that caught me by surprise was a talk that Eric had with somebody about becoming a dad. He might have been talking with Jason - I don't remember now - and remarked that he hadn't been prepared to be a dad at 16. Zoinks! So Eric and Tami were high school sweethearts, and Julie was born when they were just teenagers?!? That adds a whole new dimension to Eric's concerns about Julie dating Matt... especially after the locker room talk he heard! I wonder when the football season will end in Dillon. Does the football season last alot longer in Texas than it does up north? Our high school teams in New England used to wrap up their seasons by Thanksgiving! A new episode is scheduled to air tonight. Here's a preview: NEVERMIND (Parental Advisory) 01-03-2007 8:00PM UNDER PRESSURE -- The Panthers are preparing yet again for another game they can't afford to lose. Jason (Scott Porter) still finds it difficult to adjust to life at home, and the feelings he still has for Lyla (Minka Kelly) don't make it any easier. Meanwhile, at what couldn't seem like a better time, Matt's (Zach Gilford) dad comes home from Iraq, but the homecoming is not what Matt expected. To make situations even more complicated, UT has taken an interest in Coach Taylor, whose popularity continues to grow, and Smash becomes more and more dependent on unnatural substances to keep up with the competition. With all the drama off the field mounting, the players work even harder to get a victory. |

Aren't we all just loving our Kyle on FNL? His character touches my heart more and more each week. Like in the past ep, when CT and Jason shook hands, you could see what appeared to be tears in his eyes. Awww. I loving him so much right now!

Welcome to our little group, kellyakabilly! Shall we call you Kelly or Billy?!?
It sounds like you're an special fan of Kyle Chandler's... It's wonderful to see him making such a success of Friday Night Lights and gaining a whole new generation of fans with the kids who started watching FNL for the teenaged actors! I love Coach Taylor, especially the way he always reminds his players to tell their mothers/grandmothers he said "Hello" or "Thank You" or something. He's completely believable as this tough football coach and a fierce dad, but also this soft-spoken down-home Texan. Eric and Tami have a fun dynamic, too! And Matt & Julie --- sweet as can be!!! I look forward to FNL every week. "Homecoming" episode will be re-run this coming Wednesday. |

Thanks for the welcome! You can call me Kelly- that is my given name and I'm female (just to clear up any confusion). Billy is just a fun nickname of mine. Yes, I guess I do consider myself a big fan of Kyle and have been for ten years.

Two more days 'til the first new episode in what seems like forever!!! (It's only been two weeks!) When I first saw the title of this week's eppy, I said "Wha-at?" Are Jason and Lyla headed to the chapel??? Since Coach Taylor was married so young himself, he may have some advice to offer on the subject... In any event, I hope the whole lawsuit issue is settled quickly. The thing makes me cringe with discomfort. Wouldn't a lawsuit financially bankrupt the Taylors? They couldn't possibly have any insurance that would cover something like that!
LITTLE GIRL I WANNA TO MARRY YOU 01-24-2007 8:00PM CRUNCH TIME -- Its do or die as the Panthers are one game away from the playoffs. In lieu of all the troubles off the field lately, everyone is working extra hard to get their mind back into game mode. Smashs mom (guest star Liz Mikel) discovers something in Smashs (Gaius Charles) room that can potentially destroy his dreams of playing football. Tyra (Adrianne Palicki), fed up with her mothers insecurities, decides to take matters into her own hands to get their life back on track. Meanwhile, Jason (Scott Porter) rethinks the seriousness of his relationship with Lyla (Minka Kelly) after Bud (Brad Leland) sets her up on a date. It all builds up to an ending that will determine the fate of the Panthers season, and a decision that will determine the fate of two lives. |

Re: Friday Night Lights

I love it when Coach Taylor gets all angry! His scenes with Smash and Smash's mom were something else last week...
My favorite moment, though, was when Matt's studying paid off. He fired the ball to Tim who brought it into the end zone. Eric had this fabulous, fierce, triumphant look on his face as he ran down the sideline while his running back moved down the field. Julie has become like another member of the Saracen family. She seems to be spending a great deal of time with Matt and, from the look of the preview, is going to be awful crushed when he disappoints her during the next episode. And as harsh as his comments were, I'm loving Buddy Garrity for his love and concern for his daughter: "She'd follow you into hell... but are you going to lead her?" UPPING THE ANTE 01-31-2007 8:00PM ALL BETS ARE OFF -- The stakes are high on and off the field as the players prepare for their first playoff match. Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) struggles between preparing for the game and dealing with the situation with Smash (Gaius Charles) as the town of Dillon piles on the pressure. Relationships also begin to form as Tyra (Adrianne Palicki) and Julie (Aimee Teegarden) start an unlikely friendship and Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) reconnects with his estranged father. Jason (Scott Porter) and Lyla (Minka Kelly), on the other hand, have problems of their own as Buddy (Brad Leland) finds out news of their engagement. The Panthers have to put all problems aside as their postseason fate begins with this first very important game. |

I wish I knew how to quote you guys on here, but anyways....
I also loved the part where Matt made that great pass/touchdown (whatever it was) and Coach Taylor got excited. It made me laugh when he did that sideways galloping down the field as Matt pulled off those great moves! "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

Re: Friday Night Lights

I missed the beginning of last week's episode and feel like I missed something critical. Guess I'll have something to look forward to in reruns!
Coach Taylor found out that he'd have to be deposed on the afternoon before the playoff game, but he had some friendly moments with Jason - and even a generous greeting for Jason's parents! - when he ran into them in the waiting room. Tami gave her husband some very sound advice to be a little easier on Smash. Coach drove over to Smash's place and they both remembered just why they love football so much when they played a game with some kids in the neighborhood. I think Eric needed that as badly as Smash did! Tim spent some time with his father but pulled away when his father refused to come Dillon to watch him in the playoff game. (What's that about?) Julie and Tyra are friends now (When did that happen?) and Julie was devastated when she found out that Matt was at a wild pre-game party with the Rally Girls. I think that about wraps it up! There are a ton of storylines going on right now --- enough to make me a little dizzy! - but maybe the writers will get their rhythm back with the next episode. It's nice when each of the characters get some attention, but - well - I'd be okay if everybody (except Eric!) spent some regular time on the backburner... Here's the preview for tomorrow night's episode: BLINDERS 02-07-2007 8:00PM THE RACE CARD - After their first thrilling victory in the playoffs, the Panthers feel invincible - until Mac (Blue Deckert) makes racial statements that test the teams bond. Tim (Taylor Kitsch) and Billy (Derek Phillips) adjust to having their father back in their lives while Tami (Connie Britton) worries about Julies (Aimee Teegarden) new friendship with Tyra (Adrianne Palicki). The game everyone is preparing for this time doesnt include the Dillon Panthers as the girls take the reins in a game of Powderpuff football. With Julie as QB and Tyra as linebacker, all bets are off. |
