Quote: Great question, Loriann! The last episode had more angry, intense Coach than we've seen in the series before... It's a little weird. Don't get me wrong. It was hot! Just different. I've never seen Kyle in such an angry role before. The scenes after the game where he was all up in everybody's face in the locker room. Wowza! For somebody who doesn't play angry characters very often, Kyle totally pulls it off. When he agreed to go along with Buddy Garrity and the assistant coach and meet that player from New Orleans, his anger was passionate and righteous. And when that jerk at the fast food place started taking his ish out on Julie, we got some Papa Bear anger from Coach Taylor. My favorite angry, intense scene was the one where he got home at the end of a very long day to see Smash being interviewed on television. That look of quiet rage on his face... I guess it helps to see so many different kinds of anger. Breaks it up and makes them all more believable. If he was always raging like he was after the game or in the rain scenes , it'd probably get kind of old... You know what I mean?

Quote: Ah-ha-haw!!! Angry Cheeseburger Man! I just finished watching last Tuesday's episode, "Who's Your Daddy" --- it was a good show! This week was a by-week in Dillon, Texas with just a scrimmage on Friday afternoon as the Panthers prepared to take on their arch-rivals next week. Coach took a bit of a backburner to Matt, who is falling head over heels for Julie. We got to learn a whole lot more about Matt this week. We got to meet his dad via the internet when Matt talked to him in Iraq. There was a heartbreaking incident when Matt's grandmother wandered into a home down the street and started taking a bath. Now we know that it's dementia from which she suffers. Tim is also falling for a girl --- Jason's girl --- and surprised her in her bedroom (with her father downstairs!) at the end of the episode. Jason met a young wheelchair-bound man at rehab who drew an ugly picture of what Jason's life will begin to look like as the "glow" wears off. Smash and Voo Doo faced off in what sounds like it may become a serious rivalry. Tammy makes me laugh! She knows her husband so well... 50ish spur-of-the-moment party guests very quickly turned into more than a hundred. Her "moment" under the table was so funny! And Kyle - as Eric - gets to show off some great comedic timing in his reactions to her. His penitent trip to the guidance counselor's office was lots of fun. We got to find out what Julie's first love is --- modern dance! And papa bear was proud as could be. I'm glad he didn't miss that recital... Unfortunately, the style of photography used in filming FNL didn't really work well with the dance sequence. Here's the official teaser for the next episode. Remember that it'll be airing on Monday night at 10pm. I think they're also planning on re-running the episode during it's regular timeslot on Tuesday at 8pm... GIT'ER DONE 10-30-2006 10:00PM FOURTH QUARTER BELONGS TO US - With the Arnett Mead game just days away, Ray "Voodoo" Tatom (guest star Aldis Hodge) proves he may not be the leader the team needs as he clashes with stressed out Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and fellow players alike. Meanwhile, Lyla Garrity (Minka Kelly) hates herself even more as her secret relationship with Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) continues. Tyra Collette (Adrianne Palicki) reveals her sensitive side when she falls for Connor Hayes (guest star Patrick J. Adams), a young businessman from Los Angeles. First-string quarterback, Jason Street (Scott Porter), shows signs of renewed life when his new roommate Herc (guest star Steve Rankin), an ex-Olympian quadriplegic, introduces him to a quad-rugby game called "Murderball." Emotions run high as Riggins and Jason reunite for the first time since the accident when the entire Panther team visits him at rehab on their way to the big game. With backup Matt Saracen (Zach Gilford) on the bench and Voodoo leading the team, Coach Taylor worries that he and his family could be packing their bags with a loss tonight to Arnett Mead. Here's a blurb from www.zap2it.com about the ratings for last week's episode: "Dancing with the Stars," 13.0/20, easily won the 8 p.m. hour for ABC. Game 3 of the World Series (including a pre-game show) started out with a 7.7/12 for FOX. A repeat of "NCIS" on CBS was a close third. NBC's "Friday Night Lights" posted a 4.0/6 to take fourth ahead of "Gilmore Girls," 3.2/5, on The CW. Pilot = 4.7/7 Eyes Wide Open = 4.1/6 Wind Sprints = 4.2/6 Who's Your Daddy 4.0/6 |

Re: Friday Night Lights

Well, I'm not sure how to interpret ratings numbers. These are the reports from FNL's special Monday night airing at 10pm:
A "CSI: Miami" rerun, 9.6/17, delivered an easy win for CBS at 10 p.m. A special airing of "Friday Night Lights" on NBC scored a 5.3/9, in line with recent airings of "Studio 60." ABC's "What About Brian" came in at 4.6/8. Second place instead of fourth sounds good to me, but it doesn't look like FNL did much better than the program normally in that time slot. "Git 'er Done" was re-broadcast the following night in its normal time slot: The first hour of "Dancing with the Stars," 12.9/21, put ABC on top at 8 p.m. A Halloween-themed "NCIS" was a strong second for CBS at 10.0/16. There was a huge drop from there to FOX's "Standoff," which managed only a 3.1/5 in its new timeslot. A repeat of Monday's special "Friday Night Lights" drew a 2.6/4 for NBC. The CW went with a "Gilmore Girls" repeat. Here are the screen caps from Episode Four, "Who's Your Daddy?" Police interrupt a sluggish practice with an arrest warrant for star defensive tackle Bobby Reyes (Walter Perez) after he viciously assaults another student outside of the sandwich shop. The Texas High School athletic administration summons Buddy Garrity (Brad Leland) and an uncomfortable Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) for further questioning before their final ruling. Meanwhile, Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) and Lyla Garrity (Minka Kelly) break injured Jason Street (Scott Porter) out of his rehab room, taking him on a surprise trip to the lake just like old times. When Coach Taylor and wife Tami (Connie Britton) butt heads about Bobby Reyes punishment, Coach Taylor wonders if he can do his job without giving up everything he believes in and hurting those he holds close. |

The under-the-table bit was hilarious! Kyle and Connie do such a great job of portraying the absent-minded football coach and the wife that keeps it all together with a sense of humor - though just barely on this occasion!

Re: Friday Night Lights

I got a chance to watch Episode Five - "Git 'Er Done" - yesterday. Another riveting episode! Eric Taylor was back at the forefront this time as he struggled with the decision whether to start his new QB "Voo Doo" or Matt, who'd been getting better and better in practice. He made the call that he felt he had to, then - in a very dramatic game sequence - pulled Voo Doo out at halftime because he refused to run the plays, just wasn't interested in working as a team. Matt saved the day during the second half, throwing pass after pass to his receivers and then... with just a little time left on the clock, got the word from Coach that they try a 2-point conversion instead of tieing the game with an extra point. What a risk on Coach's part!!! I was holding my breath just watching this online! Matt did what had to be done - and the whole town was in love with Coach Taylor again! (Now they love him!)
Lyla's sleeping with Tim on a regular basis --- and feeling like garbage for doing so. He seems to have quite a crush on her, which made his visit to Jason at the rehab facility - FINALLY! - even tougher than it might have been a couple of weeks ago. Jason got to see a game of wheelchair basketball and learned that he doesn't necessarily have to give up competition and sport just because of his paralysis. Tyra hooked up with a young businessman from LA then felt badly about having done so when he filled her in on the fact that he was in a longterm relationship at home. Lots of people struggling with decisions this week - some making poor choices, others putting off choices. The episode ended on a grim note as two agents visited the Panther locker room to let Coach know that they were investigating the recruitment of Voo Doo. If they find anything that isn't aboveboard --- the Panthers' last victory will be thrown out because Voo Doo took part in the game. Kyle seems so natural as a football coach. I can't believe how quickly that happened for me! There was a funny scene at the very beginning of the episode when Julie was telling her parents how she found a website with all kind of job listings for football coaches. Eric says something like, "You know, I've heard that daughters are supposed to a comfort and a blessing to their fathers..." I cracked up! Kyle and Aimee have a great dynamic as father/daughter! Here's the latest on the ratings for the episode which aired on Election Night this week, courtesy of www.zap2it.com -
The semifinal round of "Dancing with the Stars" scored a 13.0/19 for ABC at 8 p.m. "NCIS," 9.7/14, was its usual solid self for CBS. NBC's "Friday Night Lights" was a distant third at 4.0/6. "Standoff" put FOX in fourth, ahead of "Gilmore Girls," 3.0/4, on The CW. Pilot = 4.7/7 Eyes Wide Open = 4.1/6 Wind Sprints = 4.2/6 Who's Your Daddy = 4.0/6 Git 'Er Done (Monday night special) = 5.3/9 El Accidente = 4.0/6 I haven't had a chance to watch EA myself yet, but will in the next day or two. I'm laughing out loud right now at the title for one of the FNL forums at TWOP. It's called: What Would Kyle Chandler's Hair Say? Discuss characters, actors, and whether you like it best when Coach Taylor's hair is all "WTF?" or all "Get yer heads outta yer asses!" or all "Hey, friends, burgers are on me!" Let's remember some of those fabulous hair moments! Hat Hair ![]() Warrior Hair ![]() Wet Hair ![]() Stressed Hair ![]() In Trouble Hair ![]() Angry Hair ![]() Tired, but Victorious Hair ![]() And, before I forget, here's the official teaser for next Tuesday's episode. I wonder who will get to be Homecoming Queen --- Lyla, Tyra, Julie, somebody else? HOMECOMING 11-14-2006 8:00PM ONE TEAM, ONE HEART - Its homecoming in Dillon, Texas, as alumni reunite, and the team prepares for the undefeated Laribee Lions. Tyra Collette (Adrianne Palicki) and Billy Riggins (Derek Phillips) mix it up as they plan the after game party to end all parties. On the field, Brian Smash Williams (Gaius Charles) feels the pressure when he gets his one chance to impress a college recruiter. Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) quits drinking and focuses everything on the game while the 2000 State Champ quarterback, Lucas Mize (guest star Chad Brannon), returns to town a hero, but hides the true secrets about his life. At rehab, Jason Streets (Scott Porter) becomes more suspect of the relationship between Lyla (Minka Kelly) and Tim. |

Re: Friday Night Lights

Here's some good news from Zap2it about FNL! We'll at least get ONE full season of Kyle and his multi talented hair!
Sara 'Lights' Keep Burning at NBC Critically hailed series earns a full season November 13, 2006 Kyle Chandler on 'Friday Night Lights'The 2006-07 TV season is becoming the Year of the Patient Networks. The latest beneficiary of the newfound forbearance is NBC's "Friday Night Lights," which received a full-season order on Monday. This despite the fact that the show is among the least-watched new dramas on any of the Big Four networks. Wide critical acclaim and a devoted audience -- although the show's ratings haven't been big, they've been fairly consistent -- appear to have factored into NBC's decision to stick with the series, which stars Kyle Chandler as a Texas high-school footbal coach. Here's what NBC Entertainment chief Kevin Reilly has to say about the pickup: "We're proud to reward an authentic, poignant series like 'Friday Night Lights' with a full-season order, demonstrating our confidence in its appeal and quality. Television critics and devoted fans have supported the show with well-deserved praise for the executive producers, writers and exceptionally talented cast." Through Nov. 5, "Friday Night Lights" is averaging 6.7 million viewers per week in first-run broadcasts (factoring in a little-watched repeat on Oct. 31, the figure is 6.1 million). It draws a 2.7 rating among adults 18-49. Among new dramas, only NBC's already cancelled "Kidnapped" (5.6 million) has brought in a smaller audience this fall, although FOX's "Vanished" is headed that way after two meagerly rated Friday episodes. Among the encouraging signs for NBC are the fact that the show's 18-49 rating tends to rise in its second half-hour -- a sign that viewers are sticking with it -- and that its ratings were above average in a special Monday airing on Oct. 30, which drew about 8 million viewers. "Friday Night Lights" becomes the third new NBC series to be picked up, following "Heroes" and "Studio 60," which has also had some ratings issues. ABC has also been patient with some of its new shows, picking up "Men in Trees" and second-year show "What About Brian" despite less-than-stellar numbers and has ordered extra scripts for "The Nine." CBS has been a mixed bag, yanking the expensive drama "Smith" after just three episodes but giving comedy "The Class" a reprieve by asking for more scripts. FOX has yet to pick up any of its fall series and has already pulled "Happy Hour" and "Justice." Having been exiled to Friday, "Vanished" seems an unlikely bet to get more episodes, which leaves only "Standoff" and "'Til Death" as viable possibilities to continue into 2007. |

This is incredible news!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been so impressed by everything about FNL --- the writing, the cinematography, the acting. And Kyle. He caps off a brilliant cast. I'm so glad NBC is giving this program a full season's chance to gain an audience. What a relief! I'm going to be moving cross-country later this month and am definitely looking forward to living somewhere where my TV will actually pick up NBC again! Speaking of FNL, it's time to scoot over and see if last night's episode is up yet... |

Hi Nurit!!! Glad you have at least SOME internet access!
I belong to NETFLIX and they already have a spot reserved for FNL season 1 DVD's!!! I'm not sure if that means they know for sure that it'll be released on DVD or if they're just assuming. Whatever the reason, I think it's good news for the show! Sara |
