It sounds like they've got a long way to go yet! I've just read that the football scenes for the pilot were filmed the last weekend in February - only a month ago!!! They did the shoot at the high school in Perfliger, Texas, a suburb of Austin. Here's an excerpt of an article from an Austin newspaper in early March:
The TV production arrived in mid-January to cast extras for football players. Filming with stars, including Kyle Chandler as Coach Eric Taylor and Connie Britton as his wife, Tami, began in early February and will conclude in mid-March. The fictional Dillon football field and Dillon High are the main settings, but "Friday Night Lights" also will be about families, friendships, dreams, hardships and heartbreaks. Chandler, last seen getting blown to bits on "Grey's Anatomy," says he steered clear of [Billy Bob] Thornton's iconic performance in the movie. He prepared for the role by spending time with the production's friendly cadre of local coaches. "Coaches fall in love with the kids, and the dichotomy is their love for the players and the necessity to win," Chandler said before rehearsing his scene with Mack Brown. "Every coach is different as a leader, but they all have to find a way to do two things: reprimand and encourage." The movie steered clear of some of the book's toughest topics, such as racism, but it did not shy away from intense and realistic portrayals of family dysfunction and other human tragedies. "I think (in the series) we captured a piece of that life," said Chandler, who played football for two years during an unhappy high-school tenure in a small town in Georgia. "I was short and fat the first year and got the hell beat out of me. Then I was tall and skinny and got the hell beat out of me again." www.austin360.com/tv/cont...night.html This report (scroll about halfway down the page) makes it sound as though 13 episodes are in the works! www.kylgrafx.com/mojo/phsnews.html |

Later this year I'm going to be moving to Ft. Hood area TX, that's near Austin. Does anyone know if they will continue to film this show there if it get's picked up for another season? Maybe I can do some extra work for them! I used to do it for Dawson's Creek and loved it...and I would love it even more if I did it for this show and got to meet Kyle. Maybe I could mention HF to him...I hope they will film more of this show there...anyone know?
Happy Homefronting! Sarah K. ![]() |

Let's hope that he gives better advice and that no one dies or gets maimed in his stories!!!
Sara L *** It's kinda neat that "Jeff Metcalf" gets to be "Coach" this time around... Bethany*** |

I really hope it takes off. I want to be there from the beginning.
What an opportunity it would be for you to meet him and tell him about your dedication to the cause. And Sarah, I'm not sure if I'll be living at Ft. Hood or just visiting, but if you do get to work on the set I may just ask you to get me as far as you can. I'll bring some binoculars! ![]() |

Hey, Sarah --- I was born at Fort Hood!
You should check out the thread in the WWII on the 761st Tank Battalion - the army division that "Robert" served with. They're based at Hood. Hope you have an easy move and settle in quickly! As for Friday Night Lights, it sounds like they filmed the football scenes at that high school near Austin. One of the articles I came across referenced a casting call of sorts that was printed in the Austin newspaper. If they get picked up... well, keep us posted! I've been thinking that fall would be a great time for FNL to premiere. Football season and all! |

![]() There's lots of good buzz flying around the 'net about "Friday Night Lights" since a trailer was screened at the NBC Primetime Preview event on May 15th. NBC is planning to air FNL on Tuesday nights from 8 to 9 p.m. The event was held at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. Here's a picture of Kyle with his team (l. to r., Taylor Kitsch, Scott Porter, Gaius Charles, Jesse Plemons, Zack Gilford) ![]() ![]() Here's TV Guide's Matt Roush on the new Tuesday night line-up: Friday Night Lights gets the night off to a family-oriented start with this adaptation of the book and movie about a West Texas high-school football team and the community that cheers them on. The sentimental clips got a big reaction from the audience. Could it be NBCs next American Dreams? At least NBC isnt making the same mistake it made back in 1993, when it aired a similarly themed football drama Against the Grain on Fridays, when the target audience was actually out at the games. Ben Affleck was in that one. Kyle Chandler stars as the coach in the new series. Its followed by the sleek and suspenseful-looking serialized thriller Kidnapped, starring Dana Delany (yay!) and Timothy Hutton as the wealthy parents of a kidnapped teen. The show explores the case from all angles, with everyone under suspicion. Looks like fun. Time-period champ Law & Order: SVU closes the night. Some of the other news from the event --- Kelly Rutherford's E-Ring has not been picked up for a second season. Ken Jenkins' Scrubs will begin airing at mid-season. |

Oh, it stinks that you don't have NBC!!! Thanks so much for posting these pictures. Kyle looks great in blue! Here are a few more pictures from the red carpet at the Upfronts event last Monday:
He must be posing here with the actress who's playing his character's wife, Connie Britton (Tami): Here are some pictures of the gals who'll be part of the cast (l. to r., Minka Kelly, Connie Britton, Adrianne Palicki, and Aimee Teegarden): And a promotional still of Adrianne:

It's too bad that you won't be able to get this. I'd love to help you out, by any chance do you have access to a VCR that plays VHS tapes from the US? I know that VCR's are rapidly becoming antiques but it's all I have for now.

I'm starting to see commercials on NBC previewing their fall series already. Has anyone seen commercials for FNL yet?
ALSO....I was at a web site called You Tube and saw a few video clips where Kyle was being interviewed about The Lyons Den and I SWEAR that the person responsible for posting them was named Nurit. Is that OUR very own Nurit? Hmmmm? Sara L. |

I haven't seen any commercials yet, but NBC has three FNL previews available at their website! Go to the link below - scroll down and click on "Friday Night Lights" (listed under "Video Preview" and "New Shows"). There is a 3 minute Behind-the-Scenes video, a 2-minute trailer, and a short video set to the tune "Collide." (Click on each of the three little boxes under the larger FNL picture.)
www.nbc.com/NBC_First_Look/ Looks very good! |
