While this real photo image dates well after the Homefront era, I included it here, as the Grand Coulee/GreenHut dates from the 1940s. It exhibits the Teepee or Wigwam style in which some motels and eateries were built back then.

The style in which the Kullman's Tourist Court is certainly interesting. It reminds me of a large automotive repair garage complex, rather than an overnight rest stop! It only highlights, to me, the wide variety of styles and decor of overnight accomodations that were found along our nations highways during the Homefront era - before the days of the big motel franchises, which had taken over by the 1960s. If you look hard enough, though, you still might find one of these "mom-and-pop" establishments located along a secondary route, like Old Route 66.
Note that these places were sometimes referred to as "motor courts" or "tourist courts." Compare the interior amenities with what you would expect to find in a room today, if you were staying overnight at a Ramada Inn, Best Western, or Super 8 motel!
More great pics will follow!
