Daisy was an adorable coon hound belonging to the diarist's grandson,
Minnie begins her Sunday by listening to a devotional program, hosted by Rev. J. Warren. His talk is on the Bible text of John Ch.15. During his program, Rev. Warren must have mentioned that Dr. McClung has fallen ill. Leonard's dog, Daisy, is struck by a car and injured--hopefully not seriously. Thanks again, to Shirley Farone for clarifying this last line in Minnie's diary entry.

Wednesday January 24th, 1951: Mild, Some rain. Rev. Carlisle: God's presence with
us. Levantia Fox Cooper's husband was killed when his car skidded. Leonard
put the fixtures on my sink. (Shirley Farone's note: A sink union, with drawer space, etc.
was installed in each side of the double farmhouse.)
The weather has warmed to a milder value, which is why rain, rather than snow, is falling. Minnie tunes in to hear Rev. Carlisle's homily: God's Presence With Us. Minnie reports the tragic death of Levantia Fox Cooper's husband when his car skidded out of control. Perhaps he was driving too fast when he had to come to a sudden stop on an icy road. Leonard installs new fixtures on Minnie's sink. Thanks again, to Shirley for further clarification! Minnie must have appreciated the extra storage space, etc. offered by this new sink.

Thursday January 25th, 1951: 2 inches of snow. Rev. Carlisle: Help from the
Psalms. Mabel phoned. Clara French is coming home from China. Our church is
doing (Shirley Farone's note: A huge inkspot obliterated a portion of this sentence.)
On the heals of yesterday's mild rain, comes a winter storm that brings two inches of snow. Minnie tunes in to another devotional, hosted by Rev. Carlisle, who speaks on the spiritual help found in the Psalms. Mabel Fulton(?) calls to tell Minnie that Clara French is returning home from China (probably because of the war in Korea). According to Shirley, the last line in Minnie's entry is obliterated by a large blob of ink. Minnie must have use a fountain pen, which can suddenly do this.

The glorious gospel. (Shirley Farone's note:
HTC was the Happy Thought Class - a Sunday School class
of the Brownville Methodist Church.)
The snowstorm of yesterday blows quickly by, leaving frigid, but sunny weather in its wake. Minnie tunes in to hear a devotional program by Rev. Gair. His message: The Church, God's Messenger. The Rev. Beach and his wife, along with Mabel Fulton, drop in for a visit. They bring Minnie a variety of "nice things" for her evening meal, along some flowers from her church's Happy Thought Class. Minnie must have tuned in again, to hear another devotional program, hosted by Rev. Gair. As always, thanks to Shirley Farone for her explanatory notes!
