Fine mild day. Heard Rev. Osgood, Sub: "Lighting through Christ
our Light." Dr. Fox came -- did not send for him. Gladys
Campbell sent me box of candy.
Minnie enjoys what she considers to be a nice autumn day. She listens to an inspiring radio sermon, delivered by a Rev. Osgood. Her doctor, Dr. Fox, drops by for a surprise visit. Perhaps he was curious to see how Minnie was recovering from her long illness. Minnie day is rounded off with a nice treat in the form of a box of candy, sent to her by Gladys Campbell. I've always thought that Minnie seems to have a great support system in her family and her many friends.

Minnie enjoys a nice birthday. (Apparently the presents she received on Thanksgiving were a sort of pre-birthday surprise.) Doris bakes Minnie a cake for the occasion. She seems happy to report that her immediate family is doing well, though she expresses concern that there is still no word from George Schweitzer in Sicily(?).

Fine weather. Writing mail for Christmas. Doris has made a
lovely snow suit for Shirley to wear to school. (By typist: Yes it was
lovely and very warm. I recall it being dusk red in color - and a
prickly wool - an unbelievable feat to have made our coats and
snowsuits. Did we ever thank our mother enough!???
The weather is mild today in Jefferson County. Minnie is busy, writing Christmas cards and letters. Doris is also busy making a snow suit for little Shirley for those cold winter school days. Thanks to Shirley Farone for sharing her still vivid memories of that special snow suit! (When we were still living in Lancaster County, PA., our then 5 year old daughter, Erika, received a nice snow suit as a Christmas present from a member of our church. It was very much like the snow suit Doris made for Shirley, as she described it. When Erika outgrew it, we donated it to charity.)

Foremost in Minnie entry, for today, is the latest war news. No doubt, she, like many other Americans, was hoping that this conference would bring an end to the war. George Schweitzer has been granted a 60 day furlough. No doubt, he'll come home to visit family and friends who have been so worried about his safety and survival in Italy.

Saturday December 4
Dark day. Wm. and Doris go to Watertown, A.M. and evening. Elaine and Leonard go with Harry, evening. Germany not
given chance to surrender.
The weather today, must have been cold and thick with cloudiness as to appear dark and ominous. William and Doris make two separate trips into Watertown, perhaps on some serious matter. In the meantime, Elaine and Harry go on a trip of their own with Harry Schweitzer in the evening. Minnie seems disappointed about the latest war news. This disappointment may also have been reflected in her description of the day as being "dark."
