Got up early, though I went to bed after 12:30AM. Took Karl to doctor this morning. Doctor said his MRI will have to be redone, as the technician didn't inject a dye into him for proper imaging of the pituitary. When Karl told of his recent knee complaint, doctor had his legs X-rayed. X-rays revealed no abnormalities. Doctor said his complaint could be caused by his thyroid issues or patella issues. Prescribed refill for Armour Thyriod, and pain meds for the patella problem. Had trouble finding Armour thyroid, as fewer pharmacies are "compounding." Not sure what all this means. All-in-all, spent most of morning with all this and wasn't able to take Margaret shopping. Stopped at Ralph's next to pharmacy to bring home fried chicken to Margaret for lunch. Karl picked out what he needed for coming week. Will have to miss church tomorrow morning, to take Margaret shopping. Ingrid called and left message while I was out with Karl. Said she is taken down with flu and will not be in church. Said classes half empty at Melvin Ave. School, as so many children out sick. Thinks she probably caught germ from the kids she must come into continuous contact with. Weather today sunny, hazy, breezy and cool. Some cirrus high overhead. High 71F. Nice fall day.

Sun broke through fog by 7:30AM. Listened to "The Swingin' Years" music program on radio before taking Margaret shopping at Ralph's. Had $26 rewards voucher and some coupons. Bought some good things, along with a roasted chicken and potato salad for lunch. Margaret bought some pasta salad for herself at the service deli. Quiet day. Called Ingrid to see how she is doing with her illness. Was feeling slightly better but caughing from post-nasal drip. Said Kurt will have surgery for lump in throat. Had procedure done on his pancreas. Is leaning more and more toward making move to Oklahoma to live with his friend Dale, who wants to take care of Kurt. A very patient man! Weather very cool, hazy and fall-like. High 75F. Thought for the day: "It is easier to make things look different, than actually to make them different."

Had to put hands in coat pockets to warm them occasionally while on my walk. Temps at GHS 51F at 6:26AM. Very busy morning. Took Karl to Quest for his bloodwork, then dropped him off at school. Went to Ralph's to buy a couple of items we forgot yesterday. Was surprised to find Margaret still home when I came into the apt. Said she lost track of time and missed her usual bus. Was going to catch (:00 bus but, told her I'll drive her to work. Saw Newsweek Magazine in rack by checkstand at Ralph's. Cover sported pic of Al Gore, along with the caption "Thinking Man's Thinker - His Plan For The Planet." I take issue with this! Mr. Gore has a personal agenda to push. His "plan" will drive taxes up to unheard-of levels,bankrupt the country - and make him a VERY rich man, richer than he already is. Today the 20th anniversary of the fall of the berlin wall. Many celebrations held in Berlin, Germany, Los Angeles - where Wilshire Bl. was blocked off for one hour by a mock-up of the Berlin Wall, giving Angelinos a sense of what it was like for the people of East and West Berlin. There was also an observence at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley in which school children, at the request of a speaker calling "Mr. Gorbachev, TEAR DOWN THIS WALL!," tore down a life-sized styrofoam model of the Berlin Wall, complete with graffiti. Healthcare reform may die in the Senate. Pres. Obama calling on supporters to apply pressure to senators to vote "yes." Talk of "deals" to be offered to Blue Dog Dems. Stock Market soared again today to 203.52pts. Execs of bailed-out banks to get hefty bonuses. Weather breezy, partly cloudy (cirrus, cirroST, "mackerel sky," altoCU, altoST) and slightly warmer, though still comfortable. Temp today 79F. Running fans in living room. Temp at GHS 53F at 6:26AM. Drove Karl to school. Margaret caught her bus to work. Busy morning. Threw necessary skulls before going to Reagan Library for Veterans Day event. Watched memorial service on TV for military personnel who were gunned down by one of their own officers at Ft. Hood, TX. Very moving service. Feel so bad for families who had husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters so violently wrenched away from them because some traitorous individual was having a hard time coping with his impending deployment. (If he disagreed with the war in Afghanistan, etc., and the Army's role in it, he could've resigned his commission.) Pres. Obama gave best speech I've heard from him yet. He was right in saying that the murderer will receive justice in this world - and the next. Anita Dunn leaves Whitehouse staff. So exits the woman who looked to Mao Tse Tung for inspiration. Stock Market up 20.03pts today. Weather warmer today. Sunny, with same variety of cloud-cover as yesterday. Breezy. High today 83F. Stuffy today in living room. Many shades of grey, and shades of yellow, orange and red. Did not go on walk, as I had to get ready for the Veterans Day event up at Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. Ran to Ralph's early to get ice for my lunch box. Pete picked me up at 8:30AM. Grey and his grandson, Justin, were with him. Arriving at Reagan Library, we found a very comfortable spot to set up our display. Met many veterans of many wars who were intensely interested in our displays. We treated them with the respect they diserve. In turn, they treated us likewise. Doug Maroczek, a longtime friend, set up a small display next to ours. There were also Civil War artillery displays with a 10lb Parrot rifle and Gatling gun. A WW2 re-enactor periodically fired blank rounds from a Springfield 03-A3 infantry rifle. The first highlight of the day was a thunderous fly-over of an enormous US Air Force C-17 jet-engined transport plane. The great winged leviathan flew low over our heads with such a roar that I could feel it in my chest. All God's creation around me, seemed to shake and tremble. Later, I walked into the courtyard of the Library/Museum complex, when I met a small encampment of Indian Wars era Buffalo Soldiers. They were very conjenial and showed me much hospitality. I enjoyed their company very much. We spoke at length about uniforms, equipment, etc., etc. While with them, the next highlight of the day was when a formation of Air Force assault helicopters circled the Library overhead at low altitude, making the air cloudy with dust. We stood, spellbound at the sight above us. Then, a helicopter gunship, even louder than the others, landed in the area behind the Library - shock and awe! It was quite a spectacle. I finally had to part company with my Buffalo Soldier friends and return to our own display. Though we were visited by many tourists, we were not mobbed, as we were last year. Don Ancell, who does his stunning impression of Abraham Lincoln at Ft. Tejon, paid us a visit. Many children and their parents swarmed about him to have photos taken with him. Stock Market up 44.29pts today. Weather today cool, partly cloudy and comfortable in Simi Valley, especially up on top of the hill. Nice breeze made our uniforms feel comfortable. Temp in upper-70sF. Drove Margaret to work, as she was not feeling well enough to sit on bus for an hour. Stopped at Trader Joe's to buy things for Margaret, salads for her and myself, and a turkey & bacon wrap for Karl. Salads very good at TJ's. Pastor's weekly e-mail says our pantry received a gift of $10,000 from LWML to continue our work of providing for the poor and homeless. Pres. Obama at Elmendorf AFB in Alaska today. Major Hasan, who killed 13 of his own comrades in arms at Ft. Hood formally charged today. Stock Market down 93.79pts today. Weather today partly cloudy, cool and windy by mid-afternoon. High temp today 69F. On way home this evening with Margaret, saw terrible accident at Zelzah and plummer. Car in intersection fearfully smashed up; a total loss. While at Reagan Library yesterday, was handed a paper by a staff member, a kindly late-middle aged man. His name is Robert Haseley. And the paper he handed me, is a copy of a poem he had written for Veterans Day. IMAGES OF OUR FREEDOM'S CROSS With our Independence and Freedom from a King Stars then formed a Constellation born to Liberty we sing. This Flag on parade in early days the standard in the air would lightly blow and drums would roll with bugles dramatic flare. Hearts warmed by single hand and crisp salutes so fine A Nation founded under God a new land so sublime. Never let it touch the ground it stands for ones who served As Sacrifice that others gave is true to the finest word. Explorers of poles North and South would plant this Flag so bold To see it flying on the Moon achieved a dream of old. Raised above a Mountain strung on a pole so high An image for them all to see Majestic in the sky. On crested top of Skyscrapers hit by Airplanes Through this rubble and debris the firemen displayed. We would stand along the road as it silently went by The President's caisson turning free in the highest honor lies. Went to Walmart to buy needed items. Picked up med refills for Margaret. Was surprised at how warm it was up in Porter ranch. Only a light wind blowing. US Atty. Gen. Holder announced today that 9-11 mastermind will be tried in civilian court in NYC. I believe this to be a very foolish move. What if he should be acquitted of murdering thousands on that terrible day? He would then be free to plan a similar atrocity. Obama Administration announced that decision on what to do in Afghanistan to come "soon." Stock Market up today 73pts. Weather today mostly sunny, breezy and cool. High today 69F. Erika called early. was distressed as little Mark was having stomach upset as he can no longer tolerate the formula he has been fed until now. May be developing lactose intolerance. Margaret gave some experience-based advice. Told Erika that she may have to feed little mark soy-based formulas. Erika had this trouble when she was a baby. Took Margaret marketing this morning. Very chilly and windy at shopping center. Market getting crowded by the time we checked out. Stayed home all day. Watched two Lucille Ball movies, from 1939 and 1940. While at market I noticed a strangely plain-looking box of cereal, Post Raisin Bran. Upon inspection, I found that the box was a commemorative reproduction of the box as it appeared in 1942. Back panel showed events of that year. Will have to pick up a box and save it as a piece of nostalgia from the 1940s. Ingrid informed me yesterday that Kurt will be moving to Oklahoma before Christmas, as he has realized that he no longer has any means of supporting himself and can't afford to live in motels. Dale will send Kurt a plane ticket for the flight so that Kurt won't have to pay. Kurt will then live in Dale's house. Dale and Kurt are long-time friends. He has come into large sum of money and wants to look after Kurt. It is all just as well, all the way around. Ingrid and I are unable to support him, as we have our own families to look after, and times are still very hard. Weather cool and windy all day. Chilly in the back bedrooms. High today 70F.

Went to Ralph's to buy items for next-week's Thanksgiving dinner: a smoked turkey, 2 boxes of stuffing, chicken broth and cranberry sauce. Margaret wants a pre-cooked bird this year. Smoked turkeys selling fast. Pres. Obama still in China; advised Chinese to revalue their currency, the Yuan. China critical of cost of Obama healthcare reform proposals in US. I agree with the Chinese. This could well ruin us. And proposed Cap-And-Trade will be the coup de grace. More fallout on decision to try Gitmo detainees in NYC. Khalid Sheihk Mohammed may well make his trial an oportunity to spout his extremist hate propaganda. Stock Market up 30.46pts today. Weather warmer today. Clear and breezy this afternoon. The first at about 12:22AM, which lasted only a few minutes. The next came at around 4:30AM. Our apt, building and intersection dark. Cars were speeding through as though signal lights still worked! Only very few slowed or stopped before crossing intersection. was waiting for a collision. Fortunately, it never happened. Lindley Ave. and GHS dark. Saw emergency crew farther up Lindley working on power poles with flashlights. This second outage lasted until about 5:54AM. Margaret's sleep disturbed. Morning cold and clear, except for early morning haze. Air still. Temp at GHS 46F at 6:21AM. Karl still not feeling well; stayed home from school. Drove Margaret to work, as she felt too tired to take her bus. Was afraid she'd fall asleep on bus and miss her stop. Stock Market down 11.11pts today. More flap in wake of decision to try Al Queida 9/11 terrorists in civil criminal court. Could be another drawn-out media circus, ala O.J. Simpson. Majority of Americans disapprove of Atty. Gen'l. Eric Holder's decision. I am among them. Senate Dems. meeting in LBJ Room in Whitehouse behind closed doors on healthcare reform. Press not even allowed to photograph the closed doors! It's all their game, I guess. Weather much cooler today. Clear with some haze. Afternoon breezy. High today 69F. Erika called today. Seemed in good spirits. Said days are warm but, nights getting progressively colder. Could hear the baby thru the phone. He was becoming a bit fussy after awhile and Erika had to hang up to tend to him. Stock Market down 93.78pts. today. Sarah Palin's book causing Liberal media pundits to go crazy with "Sarah-bashing." They must be afraid of her popularity. After all, her book was on top ten best-seller list even before it hit the stores. Weather clear, and warmer today. Not as windy by mid-afternoon. Wanted to volunteer at our church pantry but, was feeling ill. So, I dropped off plastic bag donations, then went home. Much back-and-forth over Senate's meeting tomorrow on healthcare reform. Dems may not get what they want, mainly because of conservative Dems. Major sticking point is tax-payer funded abortions. I fear that this bill will hurt us more than help. As it stands, it doesn't even provide heathcare for all Americans. Stock Market down 14.28pts. today. Weather clear and sunny, with some haze. Breezy. Hight today 71F. Possible light rain overnight.

Breeze cold enough for a jacket when I went to the bank. Took Margaret shopping this morning at Ralph's. Many shoppers buying for their Thanksgiving dinner. Nothing of note happened today. Peaceful. Senate debating today on whether to advance discussion on Healthcare Reform. Some still say Dems don't have enough votes to proceed. I say it's still up in the air. Karl making dinner of seasoned pork tenderloins with whole-grain rice and broccoli/cauliflower. Smells very good. Weather today very cool, with some cirrus and middle-to-low clouds in evidence. Went to church with Karl. Met Ingrid to give her pics of Erika's baby, the DVD of Erika's baby shower and Mark's birthday, and an old class picture of Ingrid's kindergarden class of 1964. Pastor preeched an excellent sermon titled, "So Then, You Are A King!" Texts for the sermon: Daniel 7:13-18 and John 18:33-40. one of my favorite hymns sung today: "Crown Him With Many Crowns." Many sick people mentioned in closing prayers today. Had peaceful day at home. Karl preparing "Gorpel Bird" of roast chicken with garlic mushroom peas and stuffing. The apartment is now ripe with a wonderful mouth-watering aroma. Weather alittle warmer today. Mostly clear, with some high clouds. High today 74F.

Temp at GHS 59F at 6:21AM. Wind made air feel colder. Drove Karl to work. Drove Margaret to work, as she was not feeling well enough to take bus. Had a rough time over the weekend. On way home, went to Vons to buy bean casserole and fried onions to go with it. Store very busy for a Monday morning. Evidence has come to light that global warming organizations and scientists who support them, have been manipulating public thought on global warming. Many secret e-mails uncovered. These people have deliberately suppressed findings that contradict their claims. Have always believed the idea of man-caused global warming a falacious notion. They have an agenda to push, and money to make (Al Gore & G.E., to name just a couple), should global warming legislation pass. The people of this country had better wake up soon. More protests from families of those lost in 9/11 attacks against New York civil trials of terrorists. Terrorist defence lawyer already claiming his clients will plead innocent so that they can spout their extremist anti-American bilge. Stock Market up 132.79 today on news of higher home sales in October, due to first-time buyer tax incentives. Whitehouse "disappointed" over rise in percentage of national unemployment figure, now at 10.2%. Weather clear, sunny, breezy and warmer today. High 77F.

Had to lean into the wind as I walked north up Zelzah by GHS. This is the Santa Ana Wind season. Temp at GHS 62F at 6:21AM. Drove Margaret to work as she was still not feeling too well. Had many skulls to throw afterward: went to church to pick up our Thanksgiving basket. Opted for a ham, as we already have a turkey. Went to Vons to buy an NSA cherry pie. But, they sold out since yesterday. Had to order one to pick up tomorrow. Got gas at ARCO. Went to Ralph's for the rest of ingredients for sugar-free egg nog and pumpkin pies that Karl will make tomorrow night for Margaret. It has been 86 days since pres. Obama was to give decision on whether to send more troops to Afghanistan. In the meantime, our servicemen and women are dying because they aren't reinforced. We ought to either support our troops in this war, or pull them out altogether. Whitehouse annouced Pres. will give his decission in the next few days(!). Got blown about on my morning walk. Temp at GHS 68F at 6:22AM. Margaret caught her bus to work. Karl had short day at school. Started on making sugarfree pumpkin pies for his mother. Apt. smells like Thanksgiving already. This morning went to Vons to pick up cherry pie I ordered yesterday. Store very busy. Traffic heavier than usual at 10AM. Pres. Obama, in an annual tradition, "pardoned" a turkey on Whitehouse portico. Watched it on TV. Very humorous. Pres. Obama said that, when he first saw the turkey, he wanted to "eat that sucker!" but changed his mind. Obama set to annaunce his decision on Afghanistan at West Point on Tuesday Night next. Obama "honeymoon" over as his pole numbers continue to slip. Stock Market up 30.69pts today. Weather warmer and windy. High today 80F. Fire burning since last night in hills of Orange County. Winds gusting there, to 50mph, with warm temps and single-digit humidity levels; a recipe for a wildfire. Fire 15% contained, so far.

Traffic quiet on our street. Karl and I got busy early in the morning switching furniture around to accomodate the Christmas Tree that I'll set up tomorrow. Stayed home all day. Water was not shut off until early afternoon, when many of us were in the midst of preparing our Thanksgiving dinner. Fortunately, it didn't stay off for not too long. Karl and Margaret worked in the kitchen on dinner. Karl is so talented in so many areas. Our dinner consisted of smoked turkey with stuffing, gravy, bean casserole, home-made yams, olives and jellied cranberry sause. It was a very delicious meal! I feel like an engorged python! Though our situation is tougher than it would be if I were employed, we have much for which to be thankful. The Lord has been, despite my whining and complaining, very good to us. Weather warm and windy, though not warm enough to turn on the A/C. High temp today 80F. Tomorrow is predicted to be much cooler. We will not be part of the Black friday crowd. This, to me, is the insanity of consuming materialism and the crass commercialism of the Christmas season in our society.
