Partly cloudy with marestail cirrus, degenerating into cirrostratus. Stayed home from church today. Needed rest. Had very odd dreams last night. Stayed in all day.Sun made our livingroom stuffy. So, had to turn on A/C again. Wish this weather would cool down again. Running A/C drives up our electric bill. Erika called and spoke to Margaret and Karl. Said little Mark is doing well and is a very good baby. Only gets cranky when being changed. Very easy baby to care for. Weather very warm again today. Partly cloudy, as afore-mentioned. High about 90F. Cooler tomorrow. Hope so! Stomach not bothering me as much as yesterday. Balloon escapade on Friday in Colorado, turned out to be a hoax and publicity stunt purpetrated by parents of 6 year old boy. They may be facing charges.

Light breeze. Temp at GHS 60F at 6:30AM. Margaret took bus to work. Karl home from school as his stomach bothering him. Maybe, he has what bothered me over the weekend. Erika called around noon. Told a humorous story about what happened to her mother-in-law while she was changing, then having to bathe little Mark. Though, I don't think my sister-in-law was laughing at the time! Mark is back to work after missing a couple of days because of his back. Stock Market up 96.28pts. Russia launched a missile that is faster than anything we have. This, after Pres. Obama dismantled the East European missile defense net in Poland, leaving them defenseless. Pres. Obama's "talk softly" policy with Russia not working. Putin will not take a stand against Iran's nukes. Does not support US. Vice Pres. Biden must be wearing a blindfold when he speaks about the current economy. He is right about only one thing: "When you're out of work, it's a DEPRESSION." Weather partly cloudy, breezy and cool. Many forms of cumulus overhead. Sun in and out all day. Temp in low 70sF. Nice break from last four days!

Had to get up and close our bedroom window at 3AM. Vindy and chilly on my walk. The breaking dawn appeared as a glowing turquoise band crowning the ridges of the San Gabriels to the east. Temp at GHS 60F at 6:29AM. As I left with Karl to take him to school, our corner was partially blocked by an accident. A car, with its front end smashed in, was in the middle of intersection. A city bus was stiopped at corner on our side, with hazrd lights flashing. Orange cones were set up in intersection, with parking enforcement officer directing traffic and diverting us to turn Left onto Devonshire. Fire truck and police cars parked near bus. Not sure if bus directly involved, or if it was hit. On way back home, saw LAFD paramedic pull up to accident scene. I'm surprised that there aren't more accidents on our corner in the morning. People drive far too fast on our street. Then, there's the school traffic at GHS. Karl and Margaret tell me often of their nervousness at crossing the streets by us. Nothing of any note took place at home today. Stock Market down today 50.71pts. Top Dems meeting behind closed doors to hammer out healthcare reform bill details. Whatever happened to Pres. Obama's campaign promises of transparency? Whitehouse has declared war on FoxNews, claiming they "have a perspective." Well, then - does this mean that MSNBC, CNN, et al., don't have a "perspective??" The media have not seen an attack on their 1st Amendment rights since Pres. Nixon. Temp at GHS 59F at 6:29AM. No raccoons. Drove Karl to school. Also drove Margaret to work, as she was feeling alittle under the weather. Stopped at Food 4 Less on way home. Stock Market down 92.12pts today, bringing Dow below the 10,000 mark. Senate motion, by majority Dems, to shift Medicare costs to National deficit, defeated by united GOP and some Blue-dog Dems. Serious concern over Swine Flu epidemic here in LA Co. Emergency rooms filling with infected people. Not enough vaccine to go around, despite promises by US Government that supplies of vaccine would be sufficient. Am very concerned about Margaret because of her thyroid-related immune disorder; Karl also has this disorder. Weather breezy, warmer and partly cloudy - mainly cirrus. High in low 80sF.

The sky was a deep azure blue, with the orange glow of dawn cresting the ridge of the San Gabriels. Temp at GHS 56F at 6:29AM. Drove Karl to school. Margaret felt well enough to catch her bus to work. Threw a couple of skulls later in the morning; went to 99c Store and Trader Joe's. Spent only small amount of money, as our budget is tight at present. Was craving a Trader Joe's Italian Chopped Salad for lunch. They make the best prepared salads. More debate over Obama healthcare reform bill. Biggest problem is the cybertechnology required to make it work. Bill also attemps to re-invent our entire healthcare system, which could spell catastrophe for our nation. Stock Market rose 131.95pts today. Though oil prices have risen to $80/bbl., gas prices have remained steady here. Weather today much warmer. Getting stuffy in livingroom. Sunny, hazy and breezy. High about 90F.

So much has transpired since 1982! Ran an errand to Ralph's to do alittle pre-shopping. White House forced to reinstate FoxNews in Press Pool. More contraversy over closed-door meetings by key Administration and Dems on healthcare reform bill. GOP members shut out. The door is locked. Will they emerge from behind the locked door and present Americans with a fait accompli?? Pres. Obama ran on the platform of transparency. So far, there has been little of that. Soopy Sales died last night at age 83 in new York. When I was a kid during the 1960s, I watched his Friday night TV show Stock Market down 109.13pts today. Weather hot with mild breeze. Sky partly cloudy with areas of cirrus, cirrostraus and cirrocumulus. Took Margaret to Ralph's for her weekly shopping. Apt. getting stuffy from heat. Had to turn on A/C and fans. Spent 2 hrs. on phone with Ingrid. Kevin gone for the weekend Boyscout camping trip. Spoke at length about Kurt's health issues. Kurt in the hospital again. Had another fall downstairs, where he is staying. Two teeth broken out. Also other injuries. Doctor concerned about Kurt's pancreas. Is showing blood in his bodily effluences. Ingrid has seen him recently and said he has the palor of a very sick man. We are worried that he hasn't much longer in this world. This is the price of decades of bad eating habits. That tasty Big Mack can be a silent killer! Weather hot and slightly hazy. Very breezy. High about 92F.

Windy this morning. Warmer than yesterday morning because of blowing Santa Anas. Didn't go to church, though I wanted to. All services crammed into one. Too crowded for me. Stayed home and went through boxes in our bedroom closet to sort out what we don't need to save. Trying to cut down on clutter. Will donate what we no longer want, to Salvation Army. Was surprised that Erika hasn't called. Karl made spaghetti for dinner. Very good and very filling. I feel gorged. Weather clear, to partly cloudy. Light haze in all horizons. Hot - low 90sF.

Threw skulls: to Porter Ranch Kaiser Pharmacy to pick up Margaret's Metformin refill. Then to Ralph's to buy "everything" bagels for Margaret. Very windy up at porter Ranch. Much cooler, too. October reported as deadliest month on record for US troops in Afghanistan. Pres. Obama has yet to reach decision on whether or not to send more troops to Afghanistan. Stock Market up modestly at 14.21pts. Posted more pics on Homefront message board in Minnie's diary thread, as well as, new info on Hounsfield, NY. Beth should appreciate this very much. Jacket came in very handy on my dark morning walk. Temp at GHS 50F at 6:29AM. Very windy last night. On drive home from Margaret's work, had to slalom around rubble and tree branches that were blown into the roadways. Drove Karl to school. Had to drive Margaret to work, as her bus never came. She waited more than half an hour in the cold wind. Worked on cleaning clutter out of our bedroom closet. Hard to decide on what to keep, and what to give up. Stock Market down today 119.48pts. More Taliban attacks in Afghanistan. Many women and children killed. Weather today very cool and breezy. Very fall-like, and very comfortable. High in mid-60sF.

Temp at GHS 53F at 6:28AM. Windchill made the air feel much colder. Drove Karl to school. Margaret almost missed her bus this morning when she had to come back home to get her coat. Fortunately, the driver waited for her. Threw skulls this morning: to bank, to corner ARCO for gas. Paid $2.93/gal., then to Trader Joe's and Ralph's for pre-shopping. Two men wounded in Safardic synagogue this morning in North Hollywood when two masked gunmen chased them and opened fire. The victims are doing well and will recover from their gunshot wounds. Mayor Villaragosa says publuic should not draw any hasty conclusions about the incident. Meanwhile, all Jewish synagogues, temples, schools and other organizations placed on high security alert. Speaker Polosi announced completion of Healthcare Reform Bill. Now, it will go to Congress for a vote. Supporters say it is deficit-neutral, as the rich will be taxed for it. I fear that this will not be the case. Pres. Obama honors return of 18 fallen soldiers killed in Afghanistan. Stock Market leaped up 199.89pts today. Weather very cool and breezy today. Sunny, with only a few whisps of very high cirrus overhead. Temp 71F. Nice fall day.

Cold and clear on my morning walk. Only a few patches of high cirrus on the eastern horizon. Temp at GHS 50F at 6:32AM. Drove Karl to school. Margaret caught her bus to work, as usual. Went to church to volunteer at pantry. Was surprised at how little was on the shelves. Hardly any bread to hand out; very few pastries, also. Leanora and I worked the kitchen. Filled eight orders. Then things quieted down. Most waiting for chance at a shower, and for the outdoor hot lunch. Shower van from San Fernando Rescue Mission didn't show. So, shower in pantry house had to be used, which created a longer waiting line. Some people take longer than the allocated 15 minutes; this always causes a backup. Whitehouse claims Obama stimulus spending has created, or saved a million jobs. Many economists say this declatation is shakey, at best, and is based on intangibles. Stock Market plunged 249.85pts today. Weather sunny, breezy and warmer today, with only a few cirrus whisps very high overhead. Cirrus composed of ice crystals and several miles up in the sky. Temp today 82F.

Breezy. Did banking. Then took Margaret to Trader Joe's and Ralph's. Karl came along. Was surprised at the money we saved at Trader Joe's. Love their salads. Stayed home rest of the day. Called Ingrid. Said she hasn't heard from Kurt since last week, and was glad of it. Is staying home from church tomorrow, as she has had a rough week at Melvin Ave. School and needs the rest. Erika called early this morning. Said she'll send photos of little Mark that they had taken at a studio last week. Will send an 8X10, along with some wallet-size pics. Told her to take a group family portrait next time. Erika called later today distraught over arguement with Mark. I called her back an hour later, as we were concerned. Erika reported everything okay now. Will go with Karl to church tomorrow. Weather clear, sunny and warmer. High temp 87F. Wind came up in the evening. Flags outside our window flapping in the wind. No kids came by for Trick-or-Treat. Our neighborhood mostly security entry apt. complexes. Kids go mostly to houses on back streets near us.

Shelf in bathroom fell during the night, scaring me out of sleep. Morning much warmer. Went to church with Karl. Opening hymn "For All The saints." Exellent sermon by Pastor Barth, "The Patience Of God." Preeched on Matthew 24:42-51; 2 Peter 3:8-13; Hebrews 12:1-3. Holy Communion. Read Psalm 130 responsively. Became stuffy in sanctuary during service. So, Pastor had ushers turn on overhead fans. Margaret turned on A/C just before Karl and I came home, as sun beating strongly on our living room window, heating up our apt. Stayed home and rested. Weather very warm and breezy. High temp 88F. Same weather we had this time last year before the terrible fires broke out in our area. Hope we get rain again soon. Don't want to go through another Sayre Fire again! First day back on Pacific Standard Time (PST).

Air still. Brighter, because of switch to PST last Sat. Night. Only light morning haze girdling the surrounding mountains. Brought sunglasses on my walk, as sun rose above horizon before I reached home. Didn't wear a jacket. Temp at GHS 57F at 6:22AM. Drove Karl to school. Margaret caught her bus. Did some chores around the apt. Erika called in the fore-noon to say she is sending the DVD of her baby shower, as well as, the pics of little Mark. Said weather in her part of Florida cooling off. Had to turn on heater, for the first time last night. Got down to freezing. Key gubernatorial elections tomorrow in Virginia and New Jersey. Democratic incumbents threatened by conservative challengers. Will be interesting to see the outcome. Stock Market up today 76.71pts. Weather much warmer today. Clear and sunny - no clouds or haze. One of her coworkers sick yesterday, but didn't go home, as he should have done. He may have spread his contageon to everybody in that small office. Why can't people just stay home when they are sick! Bought gas at Food 4 Less on way home. Paid $2.89/gal. Erika called today. Asked if Karl finished DVDs for Mark. Key elections being held today. Some say Conservatives could come out ahead because of Pres. Obama's healthcare reform, energy, and "card check" policies. Outcome will be interesting. Will be watching the returns. Leading Whitehouse Dems now say Heathcare Reform Bill won't be voted on before end of the year, which is contrary to Pres. Obama's campaign promise last year. Stock Market down today 17.53pts. Margaret caught her bus to work, though she was feeling a bit under the weather. Karl home from school with throat and sinus complaint. Conservative gubernatorial candidates won in New Jersey and Virginia. Big upset victory for Republicans in New Jersey, as "Obama magic" didn't work for Democrat Corzine. Pres. Obama campaigned heavily for him. Dems savoring their one big win in New York's 23rd Congressional district. Stock Market up today 30.23pts. Weather cooler, breezier and partly cloudy. Felt drizzle hit my face as I was out walking this morning. Temp at GHS 53F at 6:23AM. Drove Karl to school. Margaret took her bus, as usual. Threw skull by going to Walmart up in Porter Ranch. Cloudy and cool at few mins. after 9AM, with sun trying to break through overcast. Bought many needed items while buying some extras. Surprised at how much money I saved, despite the extras. As I waited at the exit onto Rinaldi, several motorcycle police came down the street and blocked the intersection for a very large funeral cortege. As the hurse passed slowly by, I could see that the deceased was either a serviceman of high rank, or a prominent individual. For the hurse's open windows revealed a coffin, draped with the National Flag, carefully folded at the ends. Several more police officers on motorcycles, too numerous to count, were followed by two stretch limousines, which, in turn, were followed by four black-and-white police cars and a police SUV, all flashing their lights. The great cortege turned into the parking lot of Shepherd Of The Hills Church, just down the street from the Walmart shopping center. Terrible tragedy at Ft. Hood in Texas as an Army officer burst into a building with semi-auto handguns, killing 12, and wounding 31 other soldiers. Gunman killed by MPs. Stock Market soared today 203.82pts. Weather much cooler today, with hazy sun and high clouds. Light breeze. very fall-like. Temp today 69F. Evening chilly. On drive home with Margaret this evening, I smelled a fireplace, for the first time this season. Thought for the day: "The more things change, the more they stay the same." Temp at GHS 52F at 6:21AM. Sun began to come out by 7AM. Drove Karl to school. Margaret took her bus to work. Threw two skulls this morning; banking and pre-shopping at Ralph's. More news on terrible shooting at Ft. Hood, TX. Officer who purpetrated this act was of Islamic faith, and is a psychiatrist. He was slated for deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan, but didn't want to go. It is said he was very opposed to the war there. Contrary to early reports, he was not killed but, is in stable condition in hospital. Seizure of his computer revealed that he had planned his attack for some months. Another terrible shooting at an office building in Orlando, FL when gunman opened fire, killing five and wounding several others. Purpetrator was disgruntled ex-employee of drafting firm who was fired two years ago. National unemplyment now up to 10.2%. This runs against Pres. Obama's statement last Feb. that unemployment wouldn't rise above 8% if his spending bill was passed, which it was. Stock Market up 17.45pts today. Weather sunny, hazy and breezy. Temp at 70F. Very nice, and more like the season.
