Temp at GHS 68 at 6:10AM. Drove Margaret to work, as she was not feeling well. Couldn't stay home, as Myrna not back from her medical leave until next Wednesday. Margaret is the only administrative assistant available to help her bosses. May have picked up a bug from Martin, one of her two bosses who was not feeling well yesterday. Why can't people just stay home when they're sick? Threw two skulls on the way home: bought gas at Food 4 Less at $2.69/gal. Went into Food 4 Less to do pre-shopping for much-needed items. Better prices there, than at Ralphs. Pres. Obama holding "beer summit" with Police Sgt. Crawley and Prof. Gates. Much media hype. Pres. Obama trying to repair political damage he caused himself by weighing in on arrest incident involving the professor and the police sgt. Of his own admission, Pres. Obama said he didn't have all the facts. Yet he opined that the police "acted stupidly" when they arrested his friend, the professor. I won't recount the details of the incident, as it has been heavily publicized by the media. It is my opinion that the President shouldn't have involved himself in a local matter, even if it did involve his friend. Work continues on our apartment complex. Metal framework and windows at main entrance being removed. Am anticipating that new doors will be installed, as well. Weather sunny and hazy, though not as hot. Slightly more humid today. High about 90F.

Temp at GHS 66F at 6:22AM. Margaret took her bus to work. Went with Karl to volunteer at our church pantry. Much cooler day than last Friday. Fewer clients requesting food, as government checks were received. Served only 12 clients from 10AM to 12PM. Jerome was back after his hospital stay. Pam back from her vacation. Looks more rested. "Cash-for-Clunkers" car trade-in program very popular. Program quickly running out of money. Liberal Dems in Congress want to push Obama's healthcare program onto the public. However, they will keep their own plan! Whitehouse Science Advisor John Holdren, wants to give TREES legal standing in courts of law. Is my country turning into one giant insane assylum? Sun broke out by 9:30AM. Threw usual Saturday skull at Ralph's for Margaret's weekly shopping. Also went to CVS next door. Bought some small padded envelopes to ship tokens, if they sell. Margaret bought some makeup at cheeper price. Stayed home rest of the day. Called Ingrid. Said she'll attend church tomorrow. Erika called. Said she and Mark are receiving foodstamps again. Will be a help to their current economic situation. Mark missed days from work because of his physical problems. Doesn't get sick pay at Lowe's. Is seeing a VA doctor. Weather slightly cooler. Temp in low 90sF.

Cooler than usual. Karl and I went to church, where we met Ingrid. Pastor Barth preeched an excellent sermon titled, "God Provides Manna And Quail." Text based on Exodus 16:1-16, and Gospel of John 6:22-35, and 25-51. Pastor spoke of the grumbling of the Isrealites in the Desert of Sin, and our own grumbling when times get tough for us. It really hit home. Made me think about my own grumbling, as well as, how much we are still blessed and sustained by God's grace and lovingkindness, despite economic hardship. Part-took of Lord's Supper this morning. VBS volunteer staff called to the altar to receive their commission and blessing. Ingrid a VBS volunteer. VBS to last through next week and include pre-school, Kindergarten, and grades 1 thru 6. Stayed home and watched MST3K movies, and Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining." Still think his is the best and scariest version. Had TGI buffalo wings w/ Italian tossed salad last night. Tonight Italian-seasoned baked pork chops, julienne fries, and Italian tossed salad, will be our fare. Karl an excellent cook.

Rising sun cast an eerie glow across the base of these clouds. Temp at GHS 66F at 6:12AM. Margaret caught her bus to work. Erika called today. Spoke to Karl for an hour and a half. One of my items didn't sell. So, relisted it and slightly changed category listing. August will still be a tough month for us, as I must still raise money to pay veh. registration before the 22nd. Margaret has MRI appt on 29th with Kaiser. We must come up with $100 co-payment, as they must take two images of her. Members of Congress getting rough treatment at "town hall meetings" for their support of Pres. Obama's healthcare plan, as well as, cap and trade. Nice to see Americans waking up and finding their voices. There may well be a "voting booth revolution" in store for Congressional elections. Stock Market up again today: 114.19pts. Indicators seem to show we may be starting to climb out of current recession. My word to Obama and Congress: No more billions for "stimulus"! Now says he wants to raise money for laptop or notebook computer. Left-leaning mainstream media trying to demonize angry people at town hall meetings who are against liberal Democrat-backed Obama healthcare plan. I find it interesting that, whenever conservatives show up to protest liberal politicians, the media will call them extremists, right-wing radicals, fringe groups, etc., etc. Yet when left-wingers protest conservative politicians, they are exercising their 1st Amendment rights - hmmm. No double-standard? Bill Clinton in North Korea today to speak with Kim Jong Il on release of two American journalists who were convicted of espionage and sentenced to 12 years at hard labor. Perhaps Clinton did something reallly worthwhile, for once, when he was able to secure the jopurnalists' release. More left-wing hate against protestors at Democrat town hall healthcare meetings. They claim that the protestors are funded and organized by Republican "big money." I hate to be the one to break this to the mainstream media, but there are plenty of Registered Democrats among the protestors. At any rate, how are these protests any different from, say, the ACORN protests? The right to protest against the government, if we don't like what they're doing, is our great American right. DNC continues to demean and insult protesters at town hall meetings on healthcare reform. So typical of their ilk. God forbid that the voters should dare voice a contrary opinion! How soon these wily, haughty and arrogant politicians forget who put them into their esteemed office. These unscrupulous weasels on Capitol Hill deliberately hide the Devil that lurks within the details of this Obama national health plan, which is why they're in a hurry to ram it through Congress. Nice for August. Temp at GHS 62F at 6:10AM. Went with Karl to volunteer at church pantry. Client turnout very slow. We filled only 6 grocery requests by noon. Surprisingly few showed up for hot lunch. As it was a slow day, we sat out on the diminutive back porch by the kitchen and conversed among ourselves. Leanore was present today. She is very humorous and always of a good nature. Told us about her life, as a little girl, growing up in Arkansas, of how she spent days in the hot sun, picking cotton, etc., along with her whole family. Says she learned to appreciate the simpler things in life, and voiced her disapproval of today's young generation because they are spoiled and grossly materialistic. She is a woman of great spiritual faith. We've often had lively conversations together on the Bible, etc. Everyone enjoys Leanore's company. On the way home from the pantry, Karl and I were treated to a very rare sight. While waiting to turn right onto Plummer from Winnetka, we were stunned to see a 1915 Ford Model "T" turning left onto Winnetka. Immaculately restored, it appeared as though it rolled off the assembly line yesterday. It was painted black, with brightly polished brass radiator, headlamps, and windshield frame. Karl was amazed at how high the driver sat in the old car. The old auto turned the head of every other driver on the road. Washington politicians still smugly dismissing town hall protesters against liberal Dem. health care plan by calling them "astro turf" not "grass roots." No doubt, some of these protesters are organized. But, why not? Are not left-wing protesters organized? Witness ACORN, CODE PINK, etc., etc. These condescending politicians are only angering their constituents further. Speaker Polosi has even likened portesters to nazis. If Nancy Polosi and her allies continue along this slippery path, they will alienate their supporters. And, it may well be Armageddon at the voting booth when the Congressional elections are held. Stock Market up today 113.89pts. as jobless rate fell slightly in July. Weather mostly sunny, with occasional passing cumulus clouds which cast the occasional shadow upon us. At 8AM took Margaret to Kaiser for bloodwork. Not as busy as expected. We were in-and-out very quickly. Went directly to Ralph's for Margaret's weekly shopping. Erika called today. Said she had false labor yesterday and was frightened. As this is her first pregnancy, she understandably gets concerned over every change in her body and every pain she feels. Therefore, Mother is her best reference. Spoke to Karl for over an hour. Called Ingrid. Said Kurt may be moving to another care facility, possibly in Simi Valley. The woman in charge of his current residence is too rigid in her rules and is afraid to even let him step outside his apartment. Simi is a nice community with better air quality. Weather there not as hot as Palmdale in Mojave desert. The cost would also be cheaper for his SSI. Kurt still considering ultimately moving to Oklahoma to live with his longtime friend Dale. Supposedly, he'll receive more benefits there. Weather clear, breezy and slightly warmer. High about 90F.

Had to go to CVS and Ralph's, as tortillas I bought Thursday from Trader Joe's had already molded. Treated Karl and Margaret to burgers with onion rings from Carl's Jr. Took an easy and peaceful Sunday. For dinner, Karl prepared the beef carne asada I bought at Trader Joe's. Rolled it into burritos with guacamole and salsa. Could only eat one, as it was very filling. Feeling very full right now. Am afraid I ate too much beef today! Weather clear and hotter. Wind shifted to the NE. High today about 93F.

Doctor adjusting her thyroid meds. to compensate. Speaker nancy Polosi now calls protesters against Pres. Obama's healthcare reform "Un-American." I guess that, if you disagree with the current liberal elite now in power, you are "Un-American!" Seems to me that, under the 1st Amendment, it is every American's right to protest, if they disagree with their government. Severe 7.6 earthquake in India today. Another 7.1 temblor in Japan. This, after recent large earthquake in Baja. Weather sunny, hazy and hotter today. High about 95F.

Investigating leak downstairs from our shower. Threw skulls this morning as I had to pick up Margaret's thyroid meds. Went to Walmart for items we needed, that are cheaper than at market. Watched televised town hall meeting in Lebanon, PA, held be Sen. Arlen Specter. He was certainly given a rough ride by opponents to "Obama Care." They were, for the most part, civil and asked some very well-informed questions. Didn't seem like rabble-rousers, to me. Meantime, on Capitol Hill, elite liberal Nancy Polosi and others, continue to disparage protesters with usual name-calling. I've said it many times before - but, if these arrogant politicians continue along their present path, they will do so, to their polotical peril. They forget that, when Congressional elections, there may well be a day of reconing at the voting booth. Plumber came by at about 2:45. Replaced noisy hot-water stem in shower, whcih we've complained about, for sometime. Also checked shower spout. Ran water to watch downstairs bathroom for leaks. Weather hot, hazy and breezy. Drove Margaret to work, as, in her words, "having a bad morning." Seems weak and tired again, probably due to anti-bodies in her system. Hopefully, increased dosage in Levithroid will help her. Will have another blood test in less than 8 weeks. Threw a skull on the way home. National deficit now stands at an unprecedented $1.27 Trillion for fiscal year. Suddenly, there is no talk of deficits from liberal politicians on Capitol Hill. They were certainly vocal enough in confronting the deficit under GW Bush. Yet they now look they other way and put happy faces on for the American people. Obama healthcare will add trillions more. This can't go on forever. For as a nation, we will eventually charge over the precipice, into the gaping abyss, like a crazed heard of lemmings. Obama Admin. trying to counter protests against government healthcare. Threw two more skulls this morning. Pres. Obama's approval numbers dropping. Latest poll shows him down to 47%. Indications are that falling approval number linked to unpopular healthcare reform proposals. Liberal Dems and Administration appointees continue in their demonization of protesters as "radicals," "right-wing extremists," "crazies," etc., etc. Stock Market up 36pts. Retail sales figures poorer than expected. Les Paul, inventer of the solid-body electric guitar and big band/Swing-era musician, died today at age 94. Who could forget those spritely, playful guitar duos that he recorded with his wife, Mary Ford, in the late 1940s, to the 1950s? Weather hazy, breezy, but not as hot. High about 92F. Morning cool and overcast with grey stratus. Air damp. Temp at GHS 62F at 6:10AM. Went to volunteer at church pantry this morning. Slightly busier than last Friday. Karl stayed home, as he was feeling poorly. Complained of headache. Firtunately, I had a new volunteer to work with to help fill client grocery requests. Cool breeze blew at church. Very comfortable for mid-August. Just learned we have yet anothger new Czar at the FCC. He is Mark Boyd, and has connections with George Sorros. He wants to attack conservative and Christian talk radio programs, fine them, and give the proceeds to NPR and other liberal orgs. To me, this latest Obama Admin. appointment is another attempt to shut up opposition to liberal administration policies. I'm beginning to believe more and more, that the 1st Amendment applies if you're a Liberal Dem. or, if you happen to be ACORN, SEIU, ACLU, George Sorros, Adrianna Huffington, etc. I hope I will have gone to be with my Maker before we lose our Constitutional rights. But, I fear for my children. Funeral mass held today for Eunis Kennedy Shriver, who died on Tuesday at age 88. Stock Market down more than 76.79pts. Weather today hazy and breezy. Got up at about 7AM. Did banking and got gas at corner ARCO before taking Margaret to do her marketing. Paid $2.91/gal for gas. This time, we drove up to the Ralph's up at Porter Ranch, as we like the selection much better. Much better variety. Margaret found some good sales, too. Nicer meat dept. Don't get there too often, as it takes more gas to drive to Porter Ranch. Prepared for my last Civil war living history event for the year at Ft. Tejon. Will get a ride with Pete, as usual. Grey and his grandson will join us. Have known Grey for 34 years. Tomorrow's event will also be the August Invitational. Will be the best event of the season. Sutlers will be present, as well. Need a new hat cord. Ingrid called today, as I expected. Spoke to all of us. Said all is well. As she is "great with child" the hot and humid Florida weather makes her very uncomfortable, at times. Said weather today is stormy, with dark clouds and rumbles of thunder Our dinner this evening, consisted of carnitas with flour tortillas, pice de gallo, and cheese. All well prepared by Karl. Our weather today not that exciting; cooler and breezy, with hazy sun. High about 87F. Wildfires still burning up in Santa Cruz Mtns.

Threw quick early morning skull - got ice for my cold-chest for the lunch and Gatorade I was bringing with me to Ft. Tejon. The sun endeavored to poke through the grey early morning stratus. Pete came to get me at 9:30AM, as he had promised. Grey, and his grandson, Justin, were with him. Had a good, smooth drive up through the mtns. Saw patches of burnt areas near the highway, and up on hillsides where recent fires had been extinguished. On arriving at the fort, we took note of all the cars in the main lot, as well as, along Digier Road, leading into the mountain wilderness. As we didn't arrive until near the start of the first battle, the camp was almost empty of troops; they were all in formation, being made ready to enter into combat with their Rebel foes. Pete and I, along with Grey's grandson, immediately went about our Provost duties. I presented myself to Maj. Hiestand and reported for duty. He had me stay at HQ to help collect regimental morning reports before dismissing me to mount guards at critical camp entrances. Because it was our August Invitational event, we had many more troops at our disposal. Our side presented an impressive line of infantry, as well as, two artillery field guns and dismounted cavalry. All the ladies were attired in their best Victorian finery. When the first battle began, it was a lively affair. The Rebs came at us with mounted cavalry, galloping back-and-forth in front of our lines, firing at us with their revolving pistols, as though taunting us before returning to their defense positions. Then their infantry advanced forward, stopped, and fired a volley at us. But, our boys from Maine, New York, and Ohio - and our artillery, made it a warm place in the field for the Rebels. And we drove them before us, like a great rolling unstoppable ocean tide. Saw four sutlers, all displaying their wares. Found a very nice 1842 Springfield .69 caliber smoothbore musket. If only I had the money! Had much good fellowship with friends I've known for 34 years. The weather was very mild, for mid-August. Didn't take morning walk, as my back was bothering me from yesterday's activities. Weather very fall-like. Almost felt like sweater-weather. Margaret's "time of the month" caused her discomfort; didn't feel up to taking bus to work. So, I gave her a ride to her office. Threw two skulls on way home. Job market flat, as it has been for too long. Obama stimulus not working here. National jobless numbers still very high - even higher in our area. Stock Market tumbled again today by 186.06pts. Karl still has no bids on his other video game system. Told him it's probably the economy. Don't think he should sell for garage sale price. Told him that, if the system doesn't sell, he ought to wait a week or two before putting it up for auction again. Weather warm and hazy. Mts to the south and east mostly obscured. Temp in upper 80sF.

Haze overhead. But, fog and low clouds shrouding mtns that ring the Valley. Took my morning walk, as my back felt somewhat better. Try to get some exercise while I'm unemployed. Temp at GHS 59F at 6:10AM. School year began today at GHS. Though it was early, saw school staff walking about. Margaret took her bus to work, even though she overslept by 1/2 hour. Am becoming ever more concerned about the division in our nation, especially over Government healthcare reform. Much of this has to do, in my view, with the fact that Pres. Obama and the liberal Dems. in Congress are vague and ambiguous in their "selling" of their proposed reforms. They have not clearly and concisely explained what their plan would involve. They speak in general terms and cannot even agree among themselves, at times. The majority of Americans don't trust the government to run healthcare, or anything else, for that matter. I must include myself in this majority. There is now a rumbling undercurrent in America, that is getting louder and more widely felt. I've not seen such rancorous division in our nation in many years. Groups, for, and against, are shouting at each other. May God give our nation's leaders the wisdom to do what is right for America, and NOT what partisan politicians, lobbyists, special interests, and political action groups, want. May the Lord also turn our leaders back to the words of Abraham Lincoln when he intoned, "Government Of the People, By the People, and For the People." Stock Market up today 82.60pts. Erika called today. Said she'll send updated pics of her that were taken over the last weekend. Weather in FL continues hot, humid and stormy at times. Karl's video game system didn't sell.
