Margaret was awake earlier than usual, to make breakfast of eggs, pancakes, sausage and coffee. Karl and I were thus well fed before we left for church. Listened to Paul Weston and Pied Pipers 1944 recording of "Ack-Sen-Chuate The Positive" while eating breakfast. Pastor preached a very good sermon on this Pentecost Sunday: "Wind, Fire, And Voice." Text based on Gospel of John 15:26-27, 16:4-15; and Acts 2:1-13. Sacrament of Holy Communion distributed, also. Came directly home from church. Margaret on computer when we arrived. Had a restful day. Karl prepared roast chicken dinner with stuffing and gravy, and tossed green salad. Weather cool and breezy. Sun didn't show until early afternoon. High in mid-70sF.

Drizzled on my morning walk. Temp on GHS marquee read 57F. Hip and leg bothering me lately. Could be cool and damp weather in the morning. Drove Margaret to work because of the damp weather. Threw a couple of skulls: picked up Margaret's BP prescription refill at Kaiser Pharmacy; Went to Walmart to replenish things we ran out of. GM Motors filed for bankruptcy today. Truly the end of an era. Fed. Gov't. also to give GM $30 billion. Are we taking one more step towards socialism? Obama Administration wants to rush passage of major healthcare overhaul plan, which amounts to socialized medicine. This could spell dire consequences for us all. If one thinks healthcare is too expensive now, wait until it's free! N. Korea now has long-range ballistic missile on launch pad, according to aerial reconaissance. Gas prices higher again today. Bought gas on way home at Food 4 Less. Paid $2.61/gal. Cheapest price around here. Stock Market rose 211pts, despite news of GM's bankruptcy filing. Timothy Geitner in China today, begging them to help us with our economy. Were is this administration leading us? Weather today very cool for this time of year. Hazy sun by early afternoon. High in upper 70sF.

Temp on GHS marquee at 6:35AM read 60F. Drove Karl to school as he wanted to finish some work before schooday began. Nothing much to do. No skulls to throw. Possible wreckage found floating in Atlantic 400 miles from Brazil, where French airliner possibly went down during a thunderstorm. All are presumed lost. Recovery of "black Box" virtually impossible because of abyssal depths at that location; 15,000 ft. Authorities uncertain as to why the airbuss crashed into the ocean. Stock Market made modest gain today. GM "Hummer" line sold to undisclosed buyer. GM to close 12 factories and throw 20,000 out of work, as a result of yesterday's CH11 bankruptcy filing. Weather today cool, breezy, and partly cloudy. High in mid-70sF. Very nice, for this time of year.

Humid. Temp. on GHS marquee at 6:34AM: 59F. Thunderstorms overnight over Anaheim, and other parts of Orange County, and elsewhere. Got a call from Margaret at 8:45. Called on her cellphone to say she was stuck at Woodman Ave. and Burbank Bl. Her bus broke down. Said engine coolant leaking onto asphalt and running into gutter. I called her at work to make sure she got to work safely. She said the not-in-service bus to pick up bus driver also took her, and two other passengers to their destinations, free of charge. Pres. Obama in Egypt today as part of another foreign policy trip. Hope this isn't yet another "apology tour." Another recorded threat from Al Qaeda today. They lurk in the dark shadows, waiting, like a wolfspider, to strike when their prey least expect it. Price of gas rose yet again today. Saw, for the first time since last summer a price of $3.03/gal. for Premium grade at Shell station while on my walk this morning. Watched dedication ceremony in Statuary Hall for bronze 7ft high statue of Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the USA. Fragments of Berlin Wall are embedded in statue's base. Mrs. Reagan spoke a few brief words. A very moving ceremony. I have always admired Ronald Reagan. Stock Market tumbled again today. Weather cool and mostly cloudy, breezy. Had occasional sprinkles throughout the day. Made the air smell nice and fresh. Mostly dry lightning in the mountains and deserts. High only in upper 60sF. Very mild for June. Mostly mid-level alto-cumulus, and alto-stratus. Temp at GHS 57F at 6:34. Thunderstorms caused the death of a woman walking down the sidewalk of her neighborhood when she was struck by lightning. This was in Fontana. Another woman was killed while driving on mountain highway when a tree was blown down by high winds onto the cab of her SUV. Pres. Obama traveling to Dresden, Germany to meet with German Chancellor. News mentioned the Allied fire-bombing of Dresden in 1945, near the end of the war. Some historians have called it the Allies' war crime, as the city was filled with mostly civilian refugees of different nationalities. Actor David Carradine committed suicide in his hotel room in Thailand. Was there for a movie-shoot. Threw a skull by going to Ralph's for a few things. Nothing new today. Job market still flat. Wish I could get back to work. Going crazy at home everyday. One day seems just like one before. Feel like I'm wasting away. Weather cool, breezy, and partly cloudy. Sun came out by afternoon. Cool and breezy. Temp 59F at GHS at 6:35AM. Began to sprinkle before Karl had to walk to school. Drove him to school as sprinkle turned into light rain. Was still raining lightly. So, decided to drive Margaret to work. On the way, the sky opened up. And we had an actual RAIN! It was more like February, than June. Unusual to have such weather in June. But, we did have a late-spring storm last year in May, when I drove through heavy rain, hail, and thunder to pick Margaret up from work. Pres. Obama met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and toured Buchenwald Concentration Camp. No doubt, it was a moving experience for him, as it was for me when Dad and I visited Mauthausen KZ in Austria. One has to actually see these places to get a true sense of the horrors that took place within their walls. Stock Market made modest gain of 13pts today. Threw two skulls today: Went to Wallyworld for things I forgot on Monday. Picked up Margaret's Levithroid refill. Gas prices up yet again this morning. Paid $2.77/gal. up at corner ARCO. Sky reminiscent of winter. Took Karl to doctor to learn results of his labtest. A couple of readings a bit high. Doctor keeping him on Armour Thyroid, but putting him back on Lavoxil. Thinks his Hashimoto's Disorder blocking his thyroid in some way. Wants to have MRI done of Karl's head to check pituitary gland. Because we came back late from Karl's doctor appt and pharmacy, Margaret decided to do her shopping tomorrow. Will have to forgo going to church tomorrow. Spoke to Ingrid today. Said Kurt had to move out of his last hotel in Van Nuys, as they hiked up the rents. He also did not like the area, as many suspiciously criminal things going on at night. So much of Van Nuys now given over to gangs, narcotics, and prostitution. Weather very cool and breezy. Occasional sunshine. Some light sprinkles. Would've been nice to get some more regular rain. High only in upper 60sF.

Became partly cloudy by mid-morning. Took Margaret shopping at Ralph's, as planned. Got done before it got crowded. Quiet day at home. Cool and partly cloudy all day. Mainly altostratus and altocumulus. Some varieties of cirrus, as well. Worked some more, on my latest Homefront fanfic story. Karl prepared dinner of turkey roll with stuffing and gravy and peas. All very good and very filling. Margaret complaining of stomach ache and general weekness all over. May be a case of flu. Will have to see what tomorrow brings.

Karl home from school, as he was complaining of soreness in his throat and sinuses. Margaret home from work today, still feeling flu symptoms. Nothing going on today. Two American journalists sentenced in North Korea to 12 years in hard labor camp for supposed illegal entry into that country. American Embassy trying to work out a way to intercede for them. Both journalists worked for Al Gore's cable network channel. Stock Market up very slightly after being down 96pts. Weather very mild, for this time of year. Cool, breezy, and partly cloudy. Nice and cool. GHS marquee read 57F at 6:34. Karl home again from sch complaining of stomach aches. Drove Margaret to work as she had a heavy bag to take to work. On the way homw, had run-in with a wreckless driver in a Mercedes. Was pacing me in next lane and began moving into me. I honked, and he fell back. Then he appeared next to me again and moved toward my front fender. I honked again at his wreckless, inconsiderate arrogance. He fell back again and stopped next to me when I stopped for traffic in front of me. He rolled down his window and began yelling obscenities, as though I were the one at fault! I did not return his faul language, but told him he was driving like a maniac, and that he should have more respect for others on the road. Again, he assaulted me with a barrage of epithets. I replied that he doesn't have the right to drive like a jerk because he owns a Mercedes. He yelled something else I couldn't understand, then sped off and cut off someone else up ahead. This is what makes me want to cut up my drivers license! There is nothing wrong with being rich. But, if a rich man goes thru life without any consideration for his fellow man, lives for himself only, and places his faith in gold and silver alone, it won't earn him a luxury townhouse in Heaven. Pres. Obama wants to appoint a "pay czar" to regulate wages(!!). America is already awash in "czars" of late. A czar doesn't answer to anyone, but the President. I fear that none of this will bode well for us. Has anyone in our government looked up the word "czar?" More than 700 Chrysler dealerships around the country must close their doors, as of today. More will be thrown out of work. That's all I need - even more competition when out job hunting! Weather cool again today. Breeze so cool that I had to close some of the windows. Sun didn't appear until after 2PM. But, still cloudy. High never got out of the 60sF.

Temp reading at GHS 59F at 6:34AM. Drove Karl to school. Margaret caught her bus to work. Tragedy today in Wahington D.C. as lone gunman barges into Holocaust Museum and shoots a security guard. Other security guard shoots gunman, who dies later in hospital of his wounds. Gunman was a white supremicist who railed on a website against Jews and others. Horrific crash on I-15 in Cajon Pass as more than 60 cars and trucks collided into one another, due to heavy fog. Said to have been caused when two trucks slammed into each other. Miraculously no one was killed. Cajon Pass famous for thick fog. California drivers refuse to adjust speed to road conditions. Always in a hurry. Erika called today from hospital. Announced that ultrasound revealed her unborn baby is a boy. Mark's mother and sisters present with Mark at hospital. His family excited to have another boy in the family, as his family mainly female. Weather cool and breezy again today. Very little sunshine. High in low 70sF. Temp at GHS 59F at 6:35AM. School year at GHS officially ends for grades 9 thru 11 tomorrow. Summerschool schedule earlier than usual - June 15th, to July 24th. Bought gas and drove Karl to school. regular up to $2.85/gal at corner ARCO. Margaret caught her bus, as usual. One skull thrown: Went to Ralph's to pick up a few items we need. Pres. Obama pushing his proposed healthcare plan today. Wants to ram it thru Congress without any debate. Why is this man in such a hurry? I'm beginning to think he's trying to forstall any meaningful debate and opposition thru speed of action. My fear is that this plan of his will throw our nation into horrendous debt and eventual healthcare rationing. Erika called and spoke to Karl while I was out getting Margaret from work. Said she will send us copies of her ultrasound pics, along with a DVD. All this seems so surreal. Still trying to cope with the reality that I'll be a grandfather before Halloween. Weather cool and cloudy for most of the day. Sun did come out briefly in the morning, then hid behind the clouds.

Temp 60F at GHS at 6:35AM. Cool and peaceful morning walk. Drove Karl to school again, as his knee bothering him. Left at 9:20 to volunteer at our church pantry. Very busy. Highschool girl there to fulfill her community service requisite, as required of all HS stundents in LAUSD. Karl will fulfill his requisite at the pantry this summer. We received two, and three grocery requests at a time. Shower van from the rescue mission was present. Hot lunch served outdoors. Times getting tough for so many people now. Has anyone seen Pres. Obama's "Car Czar?" No one can say where he is. Yet, into his hands has been placed total control of the American automobile manufacturing industry. We do know that his assistant is a 31-year-old dropout from Yale University who knows nothing of the auto industry! Question: Why are we appointing all these "czars" when the Constitution gives no provision for such? And there's good reason: czars weald almost total power; they do not answer to the People. The global warming cabal so worried about methane produced by cows, that rumor has it that Obama may appoint a Cow Flatulence Czar! Is everybody on Capitol Hill insane? Karl gave a scare when he didn't come home from school at normal time. Called Margaret at work to find out if he left any message. Then, called school office. Office paged him while I sat on Hold. Minutes later, office attendant said Karl came into office and put him on the phone. Said he had to finish essay assignment. Picked him up from school one way to getting Margaret from work. Workers installed decorative grating at the base of our livingroom window amid much noise from drilling, etc. Security cameras also installed on outside of building. Weather cloudy and cool all day. Erika called at 8AM this morning. Said she and Mark getting help from Mark's two aunts in furnishing the nursery for the baby. They've also received things from Mark's parents. His family very excited about the coming of the first grandchild in the family. Mark doing alittle better with his leg. But, because of missed working hours from his latest disablement, his paycheck short. Erika said they may have to visit the local church pantry for some food. Took Margaret shopping. Karl stayed home. Erika called again after we came home. Wanted to ask her mother about sensations she has been feeling, that only Margaret could answer. This is most certainly not my department! Erika reports that the weather has become more warm and humid. Today, she experienced "splash-and-dash" thundershower. Says these are becoming more common as it gets closer to summer. Treated the family to ribeye steaks, which Margaret cooked to perfection. A rare treat we haven't had in awhile. Karl helped out by making onion rings and salad. A very satisfying dinner. Called Ingrid today. Said she's crocheting a blanket for Erika's baby, when it arrives. Also mentioned she hasn't heard from Kurt for sometime. Needed to speak to him on an important matter. But, several messages have elicited no reply. Ingrid thinks he may be back in hospital again. Every hospital ER in the Valley must know him very well, by now. Kurt is that rarer individual known as a SICK hypochondriac. Planning on attending church tomorrow. Said she has been suffering from dizzy spells, off-and-on over the last week. Told her that a flu bug is going around again. Don't know whether it is of the porcine variety. Weather cool and cloudy again, with only brief appearances of sun. High only in low-70sF. Has been three weeks since we've seen the sun in the morning. A few light wisps of cirrus were the only clouds in the sky. Went to church with Karl, where we met Ingrid. Told me of the rough time she's been having as a yard monitor for Melvin Ave. Elementary School. Kids very unruly, disrespectful, wild, etc. Their language laced with words that would make a construction worker blush. One boy keeps threatening Ingrid with bodily harm. Says she has no idea where kids are coming from, these days. Ineffectual school administration does nothing. Even teachers at their wit's end, as they get no support. Parents seem not to care, either. So, the problems continue. As today was Flag Day, we sang patriotic songs I haven't sung in ages. We then recited the Pledge Of Allegiance. It was all very nostalgic and made me thing of the patriotism in our nation during the dark days of WW2. Pastor preached a moving and patriotic sermon titled "God's Great Gift Of Governance!" based on Gospel of Matthew 8:5-13; Romans 13: 1-7. Oh, that we could be as patriotic now, as we were in ages past. Only in the aftermath of 9-11-01, did I see such pride and patriotism. Stopped to throw a skull on way home from church: went into Ralph's to purchase items we forgot while shopping yesterday. Worked briefly on my latest Homefront fanfic while listening to the music of Chick Webb, Jimmy Lunceford, Kay Kyser, and Slim Gaillard. Karl fixed a dinner of stuffed pork roast, gravy and young peas. All very good and eaten with relish. Margaret a bit under the weather. Trying to rest so she can be ready for work tomorrow. Weather cool and sunny in the morning. But, lower clouds began to drift overhead - mostly various forms of low, and middle, cumulus, etc. Afternoon partly cloudy and breezy. Temp in low 70sF. Drove Karl to school as he wanted to prepare for his Geometry final. Picked up Karl's prescription refill at CVS; the only skull to throw today. More skulls tomorrow. Nothing else of note happened today. Pres. Obama made speech to AMA to garner support for his national healthcare plan. Stock Market fell more than 187pts today. DVD of Erika's ultrasound came in the mail. Will view it tonight. Weather cool and mostly cloudy all day. Had sprinkles while driving home with Margaret this evening.

Clouds to the east blocked the sunrise. Temp at GHS 60F at 6:33AM. Karl had final in history class today. Thinks he did well. Has final in Chemistry tomorrow. Came home from school at 12:45, same as yesterday. Watched DVD of Erika's ultrasound. Saw her baby's legs, arms, spine, beating heart, head, and even his face! Saw his mouth open and close. Was very active in Erika's womb. A very moving experience to watch. It is hard to imagine how any woman could want to abort her baby. Perhaps, if they could see moving images of the human life they are carrying, they may change their mind. Dr. Seuss's Horton The Elephant was right: "A person is a person, no matter how small." Threw some skulls today: Did banking, then to 99Cents Store and got some things we need. Went to Ralph's and bought Father's Day card for Mark. He's the only one I can buy a Fathers Day card for anymore. Also bought some rye bread and lunchmeat on sale. Pres. Obama met with president of South Korea to discuss North Korea's antagonistic nuclear missile program, etc. Stock Market fell 87pts today. Weather partly cloudy and warmer. Breezy with much more sunshine. Turned on fan in living room for the first time in two weeks. Temp near 80F.

Only some early morning haze and a few low clouds obscured some of the mountains to our east and south. Temp at GHS 60F at 6:34AM. First time in three weks that I've had to wear my sunglasses on my morning walk. Saw and heard many mourning doves. Drove Karl to school as his knee bothering him again. Came home at 1PM. Took his last final - Chemistry. Thinks he did well enough to earn a "B." Chemistry was hardest for him. Went to Ralph's this morning to get refund on item that was not packed with my groceries yesterday. Stopped by CVS to buy a hair trimmer - same as those advertised on TV. Erika called to find out if we received the DVD of her ultrasound. Said she's feeling the baby alittle more, these days. Weather in her part of Florida getting hot and humid, with frequent rains. Told her I mailed off a Fathers Day card to Mark. Obama Administration handed more power to FED in controlling our economy. Bit-by-bit, we are heading towards socialism. Stock Market down nearly 8pts. Weather mostly sunny today, with only a few patches of high cirrus adding a wispy filigree to the sky. Breezy, with high in low-80sF. Only and early-morning haze floated above the valley. Temp at GHS 60F at 6:34AM. Karl walked to school. But, drove Margaret to work, as she felt slightly out of sorts. Is afraid a sick individual in her office yesterday, was spreading a virus. Misery loves company. On the way home, threw a couple of skulls: stopped at Trader Joe's for my raw fiber, then bought a nice chopped Italian salad for Margaret. Picked up some other things for dinners, etc. Then went to Target to do some more pre-shopping for necessities. Pres. Obama's proposed massive healthcare overhaul bill facing increased opposition in Congress. Rocket launched to the Moon today. Will crash into Moon surface to look for hidden water ice. This, at a cost of $590 Million! Our nation is undergoing worst economic times in decades. Yet our government can find hundreds of millions to waste on This! Are our government's priorities that messed up? North Korea is at it again; N. Korean ship, hugging China coast, is heading toward Singapore. Ship being tracked by US. Pentagon sending portable missile launchers to Hawaii to defend against possible launch of N. Korean Taepodong 2 missile. Stock Market up over 57pts. today. Price of oil at more than $71/bbl. Weather very warm; clear, with some haziness partially obscuring surrounding mts. Temp near 90F. Running the fan. Will probably turn on A/C later on. Tried to reach Pete to ask if He'll go up to Ft. Overslept, and didn't take my morning walk. Drove Karl to school again. Sky became overcast with stratus by the time Margaret took her bus to work. Sun came out again when I left for the church pantry. Very tense day at the pantry. Turnout of homeless and poor lower than last Friday. However, a woman of questionable mental stability created an incident on the property. This person has a known history of violence, and became very abusive and physically threatening to Pam. All this occurred in the back of the house by the parking lot. The woman accused Pam of stealing her daughter, of all things. Then, she ranted all over the property in the most horrific profanity while swinging her arms wildly about. Jeroma called the police to have her removed, for the safety of our many other clients, who are, for the most part, well-behaved. After being ejected from the premises, the woman came sculking around across the street with her boyfriend - a spineless shell of a man, whom she abuses, both verbally and physically. The woman began shouting obscenities toward the pantry. However, since they were across the street, there was nothing we could do. This woman and her boyfriend are now banned from the pantry - they were warned more than once, that this would happen, if she became violent and abusive. Yesterday, the woman picked up a folding chair and was about to assault another client, when Pam grabbed the chair out of her hands in the nick of time. Ed and Pam feel bad about having to ban them from the pantry, as they've been banned from every other pantry and mission, because of her violence. But, we have to think of our legal liabilities in this situation, as well as, the safety of our other clients. Later, while the outdoor hot lunch was being served, we discovered that a volunteer from the mission serving the hot lunch, walked off the premises, and smuggled food to the woman and her boyfriend in the park across the street, where they were hiding. He wasn't allowed to do this. Pam told him so, in no uncertain terms. Ed will pull their cards on Monday, when he returns from vacation. While driving home, I was persistently tailgated by another driver on Winnetka Ave. Suddenly, a police car behind the driver, flashed on their lights and pulled the driver over. In my mind, the driver received his/her just deserts. tailgating is a dangerous habbit among drives out here. Weather hotter than I've felt it in many weeks. Car was blistering hot when I got in it to drive home. Couldn't even touch the steering wheel. Breezy, sunny, and less hazy. High 90F. Last Edited By: Derwenz 06/19/09 06:18 PM. Edited 2 times.
