Posts: 3124 (04/25/06 06:04 PM) Administrator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite	Congratulations to David Newsom and to his girlfriend, Sian Heder, Producer and Writer / Director (respectively) of Mother. Three weeks ago, Mother won the Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Short at the Florida Film Festival! Mother was one of 99 shorts screened at the festival and winning this award makes it eligible for an Academy Award nomination! And to top it all off, it was announced last Thursday that Mother has been one of eighteen international short films invited to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival's Cinefondation Competition in May!!! Here's a short synopsis released for the press: Desperate to be rid of her toddler in order to have an affair, a dissatisfied Beverly Hills housewife hires a stranger to baby-sit and ends up getting much more than she bargained for. MOTHER is a dark and funny look at neglect and what it really means to get what we want. You can read a longer synopsis of the film and see some pictures taken during production at the official website: www.motherthemovie.com/ David has written a "Producer's Note" that you can read in the "Notes" portion of the website. Sian (pictured below) has also written a "Director's Note" that you can read there, too! The Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 17th to May 28th. David Newsom co-stars as Dr. Jack Renault, a man with whom Alison becomes romantically involved and who helps her solve the mysteries of her past when she realizes that she is still in danger. According to the schedule, Mother will be screened on Thursday, May 25th at 2:54 p.m. in the Bunuel Theatre at the Palais des Festivals. I wonder if David and Sian are already in Cannes or are planning to arrive later. Stay tuned for details! Bethany

The awards were presented last night at Cannes for the best film school shorts. I'll let the press release give it away... Gilles Jacob and Pierre Viot created the Cinfondation in 1998 to help discover and reveal new generations of filmmakers. An official selection of film school works is thus screened during the Festival. Among the 17 shorts presented this year, the Jury, presided by the Russian filmmaker Andrei Konchalovsky and comprising actors Sandrine Bonnaire and Daniel Brhl, directors Tim Burton and Souleymane Ciss and composer Zbigniew Preisner, honoured the following films: 1st Prize: - Ge & Zeta by Gustavo Riet, Universidad del Cine, Argentina 2nd Prize: - Mr. Schwartz, Mr. Hazen and Mr. Horlocker by Stefan Mueller, Fachhochschule Wiesbaden, Germany 3rd Prize (ex-aequo): - Mother by Sin Heder, American Film Institute, United States - A Vrus by gnes Kocsis, Sznhzs Filmmuvszeti Egyetem, Hungary Congratulations to David Newsom, producer of Mother. The film was one of 1000 entries submitted to the Cinefondation this year, one of 17 selected for screening, and now one of 4 prizewinners! The directors of each of the films were invited to make a red carpet entrance to the award ceremony last night. I haven't been able to find a picture of David or Sian yet, but I'll keep looking. It'll be part of a program of eight international shorts offered to festivalgoers on Thursday, October 19th at 8:30pm GMT and, again, on Friday, October 20th at 1:15pm GMT. I found an advanced picture from the episode. It isn't the best picture of him but you can see that its him.
